Hey guys
I recently hit a kerb in my 2010 SR Hilux 4WD and then noticed a noise coming from the general area where it hit (rear left) so since it was due for its 10,000km service we took it in and upon inspection they told us the axle is bent and bearings are stuffed too but becuase of my "suspension modifications " 3" bilstein lift and 2" body they dont wanna touch it . The noise only comes sometimes then goes away but you can still feel the small vibration. Is it still ok to drive it over the christmas break ? as i dont think much will be able to get done when all the shops are closing up. I dont plan on going on any trips or off roading now either.

Also what would be the best and cheapsest way to go about fixing this problem im located in Perth

Any help much appreciated

regards Kris

Ive got 2 x spare axles with bearings on them for an SR (its off an 06 model though)..

but the axles are at my place in melb and im in tassie.. ill be back around the 10th of jan if you still need to buy some then... but you'd have to get em shipped too..

did you get any prices for them ?

Steve

Kris get a second opinion.
How hard did you hit the curb...
Sounds like you be fobbed off to me..
Sure you didn't do tyre damage..
Cheers

yeah mate a second opinion might be a good idea but it was a large box kerb with a pretty harsh hit as it even took a small chunk out of my rims

Have you rotated the tyres since the hit or substituted the spare.. for the damaged rim.
Good chance if youve dented the rim you have damaged the tyre?
Is "rims" plural???

Maybe check with Chris at Locktup seeing he is over on your side of the country. He might have an axle in stock that will work on your truck.

Har-v, as rod suggested, speak to Chris I'm sure he could help you. He's based in Freo and his number is 9467 7203

I wouldn't be trying to go too far if it does turn out to be a bent axle, the problem could potentially get worse and maybe even damage the axle housing costing you even more, imho.

Never heard of an axle being bent from hitting a curb, i say theres a higher chance that you've lost the weights off that rim and probably put the tyre out of balace. Before you get to carried away buying new axles just try the spare on and c how it drives. Alternatively jack that wheel off the ground and check the bearings and rotation for yourself.

Mechanics dont want to be doing to much at this time of year and dealer service centre mechs are usually muppets at the best of times.

sounds like we have a similar problem in my '10 SR

I hear a hi pitched squeeling- one day on the Bruce Hwy (15000kms ago) it felt like it was holding me back under load.

Don't remeber hitting anything but rig gets a regular work out... Im Running 265 75 R16 thought it was the tyres and rims, had 3 tyre places look at it and they can't flaw the tyres or rims.....

whole car vibrates at 80-100kmh my son in the back can't stand it.

goes in on friday for 50 thou service- they where continually claiming the tyres were the problem.
