2003 hilux vibration

Postby kenmac on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 4:47 +0000

I have a 2003 3.0 ltr turbo diesel Hilux dual cab. Theres a loud vibration noise that is only heard in the cab with the windows up and mainly at idle. The vibration increases as the engine revs increase. The vibration can also be felt while sitting in the front passenger seat. It sounds like it is coming from just in front of the gear box on the passenger side. Its only started in the last few months. My mechanic has checked all engine and body mounts but all are good. Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas? Theres 120 000 kms on the clock.

Check your muffler for loose baffles. Also try in gear foot on clutch

Loose skid-bash plate can sound shocking at idle

Thanks for your ideas. The vibration occurs at all temperatures though it sounds louder when engine is cold. It doesnt make any difference with the clutch in or out or if in gear or not. All the bash plates seem to be solid. The only time it doesnt vibrate is when you back off the revs, as in going down a hill or stopping at the lights. As soon as you accelerate it comes back.

Backing off puts load down on left engine mount. So put in gear and ride clutch with someone watching left mount for excessive upward movement.

Hey, just refreshing an old post. I have the same problem in my 02 sr5, but sounds like it's coming more from behind the glove box area.

Try pushing in the 4wd button on the 2nd gear stick when at idle or driving in a strait line,
In my 03 sr5 the switch would rattle

I had a bad vibration noise also increased with revs, from inside the cab thought it was coming from engine bay, got someone on outside to listen sounded like was coming from transfer case. Ended up being a bracket coming off transfer case to exhaust I think.

I know this post has gone a bit quiet for a while but I've got an identical problem to kenmac's and wondering if he or anyone else found the problem (and a solution). I have a 2001 3.0 litre turbo dual cab.
