1999 hilux diesel burning oil after engine flush @ 210,000kl

Postby egghead on Sat, 05 Sep 2020 10:45 +0000

Hi all.
Flushed a 210,000 klm diesel and now using oil and hard to start except when hot.
Is there anything I can try rather than rebuild?
I heard you can cast some Bon Ami in the air cleaner and this sometimes sticks to the bore?
Sounds like disaster to me ,but better than rebuilding as she is a farm truck
Thanks

Who knows what Pandora's box has been opened.

How did you flush it?
I might be wrong.

Did you own it long before you flushed the engine?

I wouldn't try the Bon Ami trick unless you want to seize it. Are you sure of the mileage? How thick/old was the oil in it? What did you flush it with? What grade of oil did you refill with? Lots of questions before you can expect an answer. It sounds like the old oil was heavy grade and maybe you refilled with something like 5w30. I would suggest 15w40 would be more suitable in an older engine. It's probably because you cleaned out the compression and oil rings with the flush and it will take some time to get working again.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Maybe go back to basics and start again?

For example get something like this:
https://penriteoil.com.au/products/engine-flush
and follow the instructions (link on the referenced web page).
