2000 sr5 and when I push the button to engage 4x4 it works with a clunk but no light on the dash, it works fine in 4x4 and have no trouble, the globe is fine, once the 4x4 light was flashing with and alarm (car was running) disengaged and reengaged light went out.

Had this happen to my old rig. There is a small loom coming up from the front diff and is attached to the chassis on the passenger side from memory. It has a couple of small wires in it that come from the switch for the light, I'll bet the wires are broken at the connector cliped to the chassis.
