Postby Grunt on Sat, 15 Oct 2016 6:47 +0000

Hope someone can shed light on a problem,07 xtra cab had bearings & seals done under warranty about 30000k,I brought ute at 68000k,done seals & bearings at 70000,seals again at 90000,reco diff center axle seals & bearings again at 105000k.Now at 113000 just noticed right seal leaking again.all work been done by licenced mechanic,Checked runout on axels,no markets or groves on axles,no vibrations, tyre seems normal .Not sure wether to replace axles & or diff housing as well.Any idea anyone????

Where is leaking from
Axel part of seal or diff side of seal
If diff side some locktite when installing seal fixes that
If the axel side, look at replacing axels or housing, as you could have a bent housing, due to crash or car has been jumped
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

Only towing 1 ton gross and rear full I dought it
But if that is a 1ton net trailer it would come down to ball weight, a I still dought it
I had an 09 sr5 and I clocked 1/2 of my first 20-25,000 towing close to 5ton (4000liters salt water) on a triaxel trailer from the ocean with some on sand (boat ramp) driving
Keep car for another 25-30k before selling it with 50 on clock, no diff issues at all

Big pot hole hits with weight can bend it, jumping is the easiest way

Checked axle runout about three seals ago didn't seem to b excessive.Do u no how much your axles were out & where were they bent.

Old thread here but replying in case it helps other people.

The 2005 - 2008 had smaller wheel bearings , alot of people replace the entire back end from a 2009 - 2015 model which has much wider bearings which are capable of heavier loads with less failures.

Your original diff center is interchangeable.

The brake lines and ABS from your old diff need to be transferred over to the new diff housing which i did but my ABS light is on now , possibly from pinching a wire during removal ??

The guy in the original post had very premature bearing and seal failures , possible caused by a bent diff housing which is usually caused by getting hit in the back in a prangzident.

Did you swap out the axles? The abs ring on the axle might be out of alignment - it's a common problem when replacing bearings etc.
I might be wrong.

2005 SR Hilux 1KD - SOLD
2009 BMW X5 - destroyed by a hail storm
2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 - SOLD
