2006 SR rear Diff

Postby Yowie on Mon, 13 Jul 2015 7:38 +0000

Hey guys,

I'm spending the money to go a E-Locker on the front but don't have the cash to do the rear as well. Was looking at an auto locker for the rear and was wondering if anyone has done this and how it went?
How did the factory axles go? Do you recommend upgrading them to chromo's? If so where do you get them as I've tried googling with little success.

Any help is appreciated

Yeah I'm running a 4wd systems Lokka in the rear of my 2012. Probably one of the crudest things you can do. The first week with it in was horrible but has since settled down. Every now and then you get a big "bang" and the car lurches and shakes as you shake your head and cringe.

As for axle strength, time will tell I guess. But I doubt it will be in my lux forever.

It is very effective though. You just have to adjust your driving style a bit to avoid it locking in when you don't want it to ie. U turns.

i have a elocker in the front with a yukon grizzly locker in the rear. very happy with the setup. the first 1000km i did with it i thought i made a huge mistake because it would lock with hardly any acceleration and would clunk and bang every now and then.

but now i dont even notice it it has calmed right down no clunks and doesnt lock on road unless i want it to.

No dramas with it engaging whilst on bitumen eg U turns or Corning with body roll?

I run a Eaton TruTrac which I got from the states (~$550 delivered) in the rear of mine. Smooth, silent operation and you can feel it hook up if you feed it coming through comers and offroad.

What model do they call the hilux in the states? $550 isn't bad price, those Yukon lockers are $990 at loktup4x4 and for that is just spend the extra $250 and get an E-Locker.

Has anyone checked their axles after 50,000km or so with the locker to see if they twisted or anything like that?

when doing U turns its fine if you go easy on the right pedal. when you corner with speed you cant feel it. very smooth operation now that i have done a few 1000kms

i got my yukon grizzly for $600

you have to remember that a Elocker (or air locker) is just an open diff when it isn't locked so in my eyes its better to have a auto locker or a good LSD in the rear.

Hey guys, decided that if I need a rear locker in the future I'll just hit up another E-Locker as can get them at a great price.
