KZN165R SR5 Hub Conversion Question

Hi all,

I've had a browse\search through the forum and the internet for an answer to my question but can't find a concrete one, and the questions a bit different.

I'm look at buying a 2004 KZN165R SR5 that has been converted to free spinning hubs, not ADD. I understand how the conversion works but the thing that is throwing me is that this car has the normal (non-SR5 ADD) transfer stick selector. The one without the 4WD button and the L pattern, not the I pattern. All conversion conversations I've found don't mention changing the stubby gearstick, and considering the different pattern I wouldn't think it's not possible without changing the gearbox? Is this correct?

Alternatively was it possible to buy a SR5 with factory free spinning hubs (no ADD)?

*Thanks for putting this in the right place!*

I haven't seen one without add in that vintage. Would have been a big job if they have changed it over.
I may be wrong, but unless its factory it would have been a case of changing front diff and transfer case over to a non sr5 version...

Yeah I'm pretty certain they couldn't come without it. I figured the transfer case would need to be changed but hadn't reckoned on the front diff as well. I guess it's either had a gearbox\diff blow and rebuilt with standard or it's a standard been made to look like convincingly like an SR5.

Yeah I've looked into the change myself for the next time the ADD dies on mine...

The front diff has an actuator inside that uses the vacuum lines to engage/disengage 4wd.
Im no mechanic, so don't quote me... could be wrong :D
