Clutch shudder on 2000 LN167 Hilux

I've recently had quite some bad clutch shudder when taking off in 1st gear and also when in reverse gear. I didn't use to have the issue and it seems to be getting worst over time. I do have a 2" suspension lift and have 33" tyres with aftermarket DTS turbo kit.

Could it be that my clutch is wearing out and it is slipping due to the bigger tyres and extra power from the turbo? I've just ordered a Exeedy heavy duty clutch to hopefully solve the issue.

Good chance mate. Modern vehicles are designed with components to work well with stock equipment. Sort of just adequate strength rather than being overdesigned. Normally if you do mods that load up the vehicle components you can expect some kind of problem to occur. Also these days the clutch is used as the weak link in the drive line to protect damage to gear box etc.
Cheers.

I have a 2000 LN 147 the 2wd version of yours and I too have clutch shudder in a stock standard model. I think maybe it might be the clutch, at least in mine as it has recently started to slip just a bit when towing.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up getting a Exedy Safari Tuff clutch and they're about $400 on eBay.
