oil leak on top of gearbox kun26r

Postby slacker78 on Mon, 17 Mar 2014 12:29 +0000

Hey guys im after a little direction please,
Oil has been leaking from the top of my gearbox, so I degreased yesterday an drove it today an it appears the oil is coming up the four bolts for the top hat. The gasket an breather seem fine an so does the top hat housing, it isn't coming out of the shifter hole or anything else that I can see just the bolts, anyone know why this is happening ?
Its a 2008 manual diesel 144,000 on the clock, just realised ive put this in pre 2005 section oops !

Possibly, but not sure, could be a blocked breather. Resulting in the pressure releasing up the top

Hmm I had mine leaking in a similar place about 7 days ago. I though it was the main engine seal that i'd cracked open. Was about a palm full of oil every time I would pull up. Took it into the mechanic so he could have a look at it. The three seal parts were about $200 and then I paid extra for labour. Maybe give that a look?

Happened to me once turned out put a little too much oil in but took months to come out the breather probably because I suddley did a lot of freeway driving. Try draining and refilling making sure car is level so no extra goes in. Worth a try before spending dollars. When it comes out the breather it looks like its coming from all sorts of places

Have a leak coming from the top of the gearbox after having my driveline oils replaced last week.

Thinking overfill from the breather. Anyone ever experienced this?

Update if interested - got this fixed today. Breather tube that had popped off. Easy.

Update - oil was still leaking so had a mechanic give it another look. He found the issue and sent me this photo. That’s the oil breather bracket jammed in the gasket allowing oil to spew everywhere. Amazing.
