Trouble fitting new front axle/cv assembly

Postby bt81 on Tue, 18 Feb 2014 11:56 +0000

I'm replacing my front RH driveshaft/ cv assembly with a aftermarket repco unit and finding it very difficult to slide the new unit into the front diff housing. I think it could be resisting getting past the new snap ring on the axle splines, I've tried hitting it in with a hammer and punch but it doesn't seem to making any progress.
Is there a trick to slide in the new driveshaft or do I just have to hit harder until it starts to move in?

Thanks in advance

Get a bigger hammer and hit it harder

the c-clip at the end needs to have the open end pointing down. there are a heap more details below

Yeah I have the open end of c clip facing down already, I'm blurring the inner housing as I hit it with a punch already but guess it just needs more force

I've had trouble with the Repco ones. Not just in hiluxs. You'll be able to get it in but it's not nice. I'd seriously consider a used toyota one.

The problems the spline IMO. They're rather 'cheap'.

Thanks guys, it eventually went in, just had to close my eyes and grit my teeth as I swung the hammer!
