KZN165 brake upgrade

Hi guys, have done a lot of searching, but so far have come up trumps. I want to look at upgrading the brakes on my 2004 KZN165 sr5. The stock rotors are 289mm, 20mm thick. Now I've seen people upgrading the later model with the prado gear, but can we do that to the older model? It seems that both the Prado KZJ95 and the KZN185 surf both go to 311mm rotors, has anyone made the swap? did you use prado or surf bits? Or can someone point me towards some technical documents for the calipers?
