My '03 SR5 has a problem where the diff locks in hi and lo however, the green light on the dash doesn't come on anymore. It occasionally flickers but no consistency, it almost looks like it must be shorting somewhere?? I've checked all 3 transfer indicator switches by shorting with a piece wire and still no light on the dash...?! Running out of ideas before I have to go to Toyota and get hammered with a huge bill for something minor!! 4x4 works fine as I've had it checked out mechanically and also been on the dunes plenty of times since the light hasn't been working properly.. Anyone???!!

I have the same problem on my 04 sr5. Flickered.. then went black. Would really like a solution for this most likely tiny bug...

Fixed my dash light. there is a connector/plug on the inside of the frame on the left side of the engine. Just follow the cable from the sensor on the front of the diff. This plug is in a really rotten place, and is attacked by both rust and objects off road. Easyest access is by removing left front wheel and the dirt-cover protecting the engine.

I gave up on this for 18 months but I just jumped on to have a look as my dad has the same problem on his 04 SR5 he just bought. So did u replace this loom or just clean up the plug?? I think I found the one, gave it a clean with contact cleaner and compressed air but no light still for me..!! I know there's about 5 switches on the transfer case that turn the light indicator on somehow but don't wanna fork out for all of them if it's just one that's ruining the circuit...PAINFUL!!

Had this issue on my old rig years ago. I cleaned that plug but it didn't help, turned out to be the wires going in and out of the plug move around a lot and they were broken inside the insulation. They occasionally get contact making the light flicker. I ended up cutting the plug out and hard wiring it. Problem solved.

I'm still stumped on this one there's that many plugs it's hard to know which one is the problem without photos etc! Which plug are u referring to toyzx? I might have another tinker if it's easy to describe. Other than that I've almost given up!!

Was a long time ago but if ya get under and follow the wiring coming off the front diff(there may be a couple of harnesses but there'll be one coming off the add unit) one of them will run up to the pass side chassis rail I think. Pretty sure the plug itself was clipped into the rail. Mine probably got tugged on a bit when I did the body lift, it was definitely the culprit tho. Hope that helps!

Ok cool I think that's the one I cleaned out so will check the cables there too. I think if people don't know about the oil filter drain tube a lot of oil heads towards that switch if you take the filter out too quick - mine was filthy! I guess I'll have to have another crack at it! Cheers mate

Too easy mate! I had someone sit in the cab and put it in 4wd while I wriggled and pulled on the wires.
