rear diff lock problem

Postby Tomppa on Mon, 14 Nov 2011 3:59 +0000

my 2007 2.5 d4d sr hilux diff lock works no more. L4 and I push the button lamp is blinking in the dashbord. The motor on the axel has noise, something is tough happening there but it wont lock the diff. It worked fine last winter and now when I was in a mud it didnt work anymore. What should I do now? Help me! We´re gonna get lots of snow soon here in finland and it would be nice if I could get it work...

If the motor is running check if the solenoid has power . The motor drives the locking mechanism and the solenoid locks it in place. If the solenoid doesn't lock it in then the return spring will push the mechanism back to "open" the diff .

Tomppa,
Take a full read of this forum topic. It allowed me to sort out my 4wd issue, and it concerns more directly what i think you are experiencing:

hello again! last september I had my hilux to the local toyotawporkshop and they did not find anything fail on it. exept it dont work!?I came home and took the car on lift and started to study the rearaxel. Oh shit, the diff has splitted (i dont know if thats the right word?). Okay, 4 nuts and cabel and hammer on it and it came off. In several parts  A bag under and shovled all parts in it and went to toyotadealer again. They got really amazed and took pics with their camera. I said just that this is the fail that you didnt find and i was a bit angry too... Next day he calls me and asks me if i can bring the difflockparts to them. The toyotas engineers in belgium wants to see the d.lock! Now it han got 9 weeks and no answear at all..... Price for the part has came down now to 900€ and i can buy it for 600€. WOW, Its much money still... :( Im waiting now what the are gonna say from belgium...

Had to buy another car because there is a hole now on the rearaxel. otherwise it would take water and other shit in the banjo...

Good luck mate. ;)

In Australia and New Zealand we don't have diff locks as a standard or optional part. :( We have to buy aftermarket parts like ARB air lockers or Eaton electronic lockers.
