Gday all, as i have the same issue and am running a big offset rim with 33s, wondering if this could also be affecting how the vsc works, making the car a good 5inches wider overall.
Anyone else with the problem running steel rims with their lift.

Toyota now have a fix available for the stability control issues. Basically the sensors are too sensitive on some vehicles making the stability control turn on before it should. Take it back to your dealer and get them to apply the update and it should stop happening.

We have the same problem as you I put a post on the forum last year about this issue and there were a few replies that also had the same issue

Take it back to Toyota. Most of the dealers will not have a clue what you are talking about, but the fix is now in the latest service update for the ECU. Just ask for this to be applied and see how you go.

My VSC seems OK, but that bloody ABS can be a handful on offroad decents

yes, better ABS in the dirt would be nice

you dont want any ABS in the dirt....loose surfaces keep the vehicle going when applying ABS as opposed to pulling it up quicker on wet bitumen.

ABS is awesome for daily driving just a pain when braking is required off the blacktop.

doesn't abs give you the ability to steer through a braking situation? that might be good in hi range, but obviously not low

Abs is a royal pita offroad. Can achieve a faster stop with wheel lock in sand etc than the abs system which just appears laggy and confused offroad.

Tempted to pull a fuse or switch it but messing with safety systems is insurance danger.

Lucky for me my model dosn't have all this wizz bang stuff, its old school and as such pulls up pretty good off road. On road, especially with my bigger tyres on ABS would be a wasted asset as the braking system is perfomance limited and I can retain steering control even in heavy brake applications

my vsc is good so far, now I am wondering if I should do a 2inch lift or not

Further to this issue we took our March 2011 Hilux in to be reprogrammed today for this problem and were told Toyota has said it is only for post July 2011 vehicles . They want us to hook up the trailer and let them take it out to see when it happens You have to be joking What is the the difference between the pre and post July models Toyota Hobart will not budge Has anyone else had this issue or have a pre July 2011 model that has been fixed in the melbourne area as we are heading over a bit later in the year .

Dealer at PH finally agreed to the update and all fixed up under warranty after a little struggle between Toyota Technical Assistance and the Dealers

Just to give an answer of differences in models , the month of production can make a difference as a production change can happen any time . But the best way is to connect the toyota diagnostic tool and see what the ecu calibration Id is . The program Id will tell you if it is the updated or previous program . You can have 2 July 2011 vehicles and they have 2 different software versions . If its the latest it may not be update able.
If a dealer tells you that they never heard of an update they need to be prompted to that TNF . It could be the front line staff member (newby) your talking too and you need to get the workshop controller or diagnostic technician to answer the question as they will know the technical side

Further to my post Toyota launceston after contacting Toyota were sent a new ABS unit for us and installed same under warrenty to fix the ESC problem They were very helpful and prompt and no quibbles about the part Lets hope it works properly now .

Are there any more updates on this issue? I have a 2011 SR5 which never had this issue until I put a 4" kit and 33's on it. Now I have to be quite careful around sweeping 50-60km/h bends as when the VSC kicks in it can almost pull the vehicle into oncoming traffic.

I have been shooting in the dark as to whether this issue was caused by the suspension, or perhaps even the fitment of the suspension components. Have been told different stories by a few different people regarding ABS sensors that could have been damaged during fitment etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Obviously being modified, Toyota are going to kick up a stink if I try and blame the weak VSC system for the problem, however, if there is a remap of the VSC module that needs to be done then I will dig my heels in. Has anyone had the VSC module remap done and did this fix the problem?

Not at all. You need to get toyota to do a zero point learn in the abs/track part of the abs computer. It will never be perfect but sure will help.
The code within the computer can not be changed for body roll and pitching. So if you have heaps of body roll now they could be your problem.

But a zero point relearn will not harm anything.

There is also a computer re-flash for this issue. Again speak to your toyota master tech at your preferred dealer.
