Reverse Camera.

Reverse Camera.

Postby xrdave on Sat, 30 Apr 2011 12:08 +0000

Its coming up to firewood season and putting the trailer on the hilux is a pain in the ass.
So the question is which is better wireless camera or wired camera? I have seen some on ebay with a gps aswell.
Any help or ideas would be helpfull, thanks.

Dave.

1/just get a standard toyo camera & run it to your standard toyo stereo (1 less piece of equipment in your cab for the midnight spares brigade, who'll knock it off thinking the screen is a GPS)

as above
2/replace your stereo with 1 of the asures with tv & gps & reverse cam

3/i prefer wired over wire for reliability with most things

Youve gotta go wired in my opinion. Its less things to go wrong. Any good double din stereo will have an av input to accomodate.
I'd rather be looking at it than looking for it!

Definitely wired and change the head unit to a AV6000 or similar not Toyota genuine, and with a couple of diodes and a swith you can fit a second camera on the front with a split screen, good for coming out of driveways so you can see up and down the street for cars and pedestrians.

Does someone have the connection diagrams for the reversing camera on the 2010 Toyota radio? I have the wiring kit but no diagrams and would like to complete my installation. :?

I was looking at the same system, or something very similar. But my problem is where to put the screen. Just wondering where you mounted yours?

Cheers!

For all your camera installations in Sydney, contact this guy. Better than the standard Toyota stuff. Couldn't be happier with his help!!!

As for the wiring of the harness kit.

Most of it is plug and play. Just the green wire with splice crimp needs to go to the red wire with white trace (reverse sense) which is under the passenger seat. The purple wire is the speed sense for the NAV unit. For the colour screen units - I cut the purple so I can use my phone and Ipod while driving....

If you are using an evilbay camera. Buy the harness from Toyota. Solder on a RCA plug for your camera, the yellow video wire to the centre and the white is the -ve shield (there is a 4 pin plug on the harness - white, yellow, black, red), you also need to cut the black wire from here and earth it. Most cameras from ebay are 12V so run the power for your camera to the reversing lights and splice in. The power from the stereo/harness is 6V.

Goodluck!

an alternative (& cheaper) Reverse camera connected to factory Toyota colour LCD audio System.
Display comes up automatically on the screen when the vehicle is put into reverse.

edit - you dont have your location if you're in Sydney this guy can supply & install either (he does actually subbie to toyota & is a 'nice' guy). (LOL he's getting free advertising today a number of times)
