Jaycar Speedo Correcter MkII to a 2004 single cab

Postby mlg1803 on Mon, 30 Aug 2010 5:31 +0000

G'day,
righto, I've just finished building the jaycar speedo thingy but I found out the hard way that the really awesome post by the dude that fitted it to a 2007 lux is slightly different forthe 2004 lux.

Does anyone know or have a copy of the correct colour coding for the instrument cluster wiring for a 2004 vzn167r hilux?

I have searched the net for days and hve run outof ideas!

please help!

Ok,

I'm assuming that:
- the +12v wire is the one with +12v showing when I test in with a meter and the key in th e"on" possition.
- the Ground wire is a ground wire with 0v to it and should "buzz" when tested against the frame of the lux or another ground point.
- the signal wire...???... should pulse up to +12v?? when wheels are turning???? would this be correct?

Does this sound right to anyone?

Wire it directly to the speed sensor at the rear of your transmission.
Pink wire with blue trace is the signal wire
red wire with the black trace is your power
Brown wire is your earth.

Only thing to look out for when fitting this to your vehicle is that you dont have abs as your vehicle's ecu uses the four abs sensors to calculate speed also. This will cause the jaycar device to play up.

If you have any problems speak to Andrew at The Ultimate Suspension as he fitted one of these to my Lux with out any dramas

Goldy, your model VZN167R is the previous shape 3.4 V6 hilux, not current shape thats why its different. I fitted a marks Adaptors kit to my old 03 V6 which was the same model without a problem.

Heres a tip.

Find the speedo pickup connector under the vehicle. remove the plug and a little of the cable tape if needed and see what colours are there. if you know how to use a test light, find the one earth wire, the one power wire and the third will be the signal wire that your looking for.

Then trace it back up to behind the cluster and connect the speedo box's wiring to it.

Hope that helps you and/or others.
