Interior led strip lighting

Interior led strip lighting

Postby Trent Stower on Fri, 31 May 2013 2:15 +0000

Hi all.

I'm planning to put two led strips in my car, one on each footwell.

I'm planning on just cutting the cable which runs to the interior light and tapping into that with the lights I'm buying (so that they come on when doors are open). I'm guessing there will be two cables on the new light and the second ill just have to earth. I shouldn't need a use or anything as there will be one connected to the interior light already?

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me which cable I should be tapping I to, I had a look at the cables behind the light And there's a blue/ yellow and black/orange. Not sure which one it is from looking at the diagram in the manual.

If what I'm doing sounds wrong to anyone please let me know as I'm not smart with auto electrics.

G'day mate I copied an idea that rocket did if you have a look in his build or mine you will see photos except the lights are on the doors. But you could use the same wiring plans.
All I did was power them from a fuse block I have under the dash you could get power from something else.
And then if you look under the pillar between the doors you will see the cable you need to earth them from. Put up some picks when your done
You can never have too many led lights :D

Also the earth cable is from the button on the door that activates the lights when open.

Im trying to get my head around what he's done with his lights.

I want my two footwell lights to come on when one door is opened, rockets is done on a single door.

So below I have my diagram I found in the manual

......LY ....................... LY
+__________ dome fuse________intergration relay
.......................|........................|
................ LY...|........................|
...…..................|........................|..BO
................. Interior light.............. |
.......................|_________________|
....................... |
........................|
................BO.....|_______ switch on left door
........................|
............. Switch on right door

Sorry about the dots, didn't realise it would compress if I used spaces.
LY - blue/yellow wire from positive
BO - black/orange wire from door switch

I don't know if I have to wire into the integration relay anywhere but the next paragraph is what I think I should be doing.

If I attach my positive wire on the led strip to the LY between the dome fuse and interior light and attach my negative on the led strip to the BO between the interior light and before the two doors split the led strips should both come on with either door open. Is that correct?

My door lights are on all 4 doors. Open any door and all the lights come on. Don't over complicate things, all you need is power, lights and a switched earth (ie: your interior door light swtich in the B and C pillars. Good luck with it.

Yep should work. I was going to do something like that, but couldn't be stuffed pulling the roof lining out, especially scince I had to take all 4 door cards off anyway.
