mate, the unit in the OP is apparently a CE + Android system, hence the discussion :)

It isn't though...

OS = Android 4.0

A-sure and others = Windows CE OS

Nah Loosey, these boot CE and its the base operating system that then passes info to the Andriod front end. Therefore Andriod gives the look and feel but its CE under the bonnet for bsae functions.

Like banging a Hummer cover on a Pootrol...

I'm wondering if I can add android to our asure units. To replace the current wolf front end.
I'll definitely look into it as I'm not the biggest fan of asure's layout. Functionally its great, but add android and it would be almost perfect.
A-sure could you chime in on this??

enthropy, you'd be better of asking that question direct to A-sure... I doubt they'd be monitoring every thread on this forum :)

Go direc to them as mentioned but I agree with the fact the asure does most things well, the music selection sucks monkey balls and on longer trips I just BT my phone to it and use the phone for music selection etc...

I think you'll be hard pressed to find an android only unit. I looked into making my own with superior hardware to anything on eBay and the thing I quickly realised is that external devices are needed to integrate with the vehicle namely radio tuner, GPS receiver, bluetooth, wireless, then integration to the speakers. There are a heap of these for windows systems but not all are guaranteed to work with an android CPU. Particularly the radio. Also custom software would be needed to pass calls via Bluetooth to the head unit via android. I think in time we will see it but the first ones to come out android only will be quite expensive and have proprietary software and hardware installed.

My dad found this android unit on ebay
He just bought it today cant wait to have a play with it.

Pros: It has a tablet for a screen that fully detaches
very cheap compared to others
free reverse camera
You can load more apps onto it like ozi-explorer or any other android apps

Cons: no external mic, only mic on front
analog TV built in, no use now but you can by a DVB TV adapter
