Bullbar Park Light issues

Bullbar Park Light issues

Postby Fortiori on Sun, 21 Oct 2012 2:58 +0000

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked, a comprehensive search on this topic is difficult because the terms invloved are very common.

I have a poly bullbar fitted with integrated indicators and parking lights. I have an issue with the one on the right, it was operating very intermittently so I figured I'd just replace the globe. Did that and it still doesn't work, checked the power with a multimeter (12.5v), checked the globe works in the other parker (yep), and checked the wiring as best I could without removing the bullbar (seems ok). During my testing, the globe came on once - out of about 35 times I tried - which has confused me even more. Any idea what's wrong?

- Has power
- Globe is good
- Came on once seemingly randomly

Thanks,
James

Sounds like a broken wire somewhere, loose connection or the bulb holder itself could be dodgey.

What's a poly bull bar? Plastic?!

Has to be a bad contact somewhere mate, you're gonna have to get to the wiring I reckon. Try the housing first maybe, take it out and put it in the other side to eliminate it.

Otherwise it could be the wire rubbing somewhere and worn through the insulation...?

Can it still be the wiring even if I am getting a constant 12v on the multimeter?

Mate, as all above have said, but also being a poly bar you need to also check the earthing of the light, just somthing else to look at.

-Id check the earth, and then the actual contacts that carry the current to the bulb. Contacts may have to be bent forward a tad.

I have it temporarily fixed now, without replacing the wiring. Your posts gave me the idea that it might be leaking to earth somewhere in the wiring, enough was coming through that I could still read 12v but not enough to run an incandescent 5W globe. I picked up a LED globe today and it runs fine due to the lower current requirement.
This will get me past inspection and I'll fix the wiring when I go through the wiring properly in December. Thanks for all your help.
