Aldi UHF

Aldi UHF

Postby Skrewdriver on Sun, 26 Aug 2012 4:33 +0000

I am looking for a UHF for my SR5, and a mate has suggested this:

http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_23176.htm

Any thoughts? And before the haters come out, I bought a lawnmower from Aldi 5 years ago, still going liek a champ, no problems what so ever.

Any feedback would be great, as I am looking to buy this week or next.

Regards,

Peter

Hard to argue with given the price.
I have one of their coffee machines still going strong and gets a good work out

Go for it - there is a 1 yr warranty and Aldi is pretty good with returns, just match it with a decent arial.

Just depends on the features you want I guess, usually the more you pay the higher the quality.
I'm sure it will last for a while if you look after it.

Don't doubt the quality but think where and how you mount it. Most go for radios with separate head unit or controls On the mike.

Thanks for the advice, I reckon I will try and get one this Wednesday, unless they sell out (which they always do of the good stuff). I was looking at the GME TX 3100 to put into the ash tray, or the TX3540(??) with the remote head and hide the body behind the dash.

Will try and get the folks to hit the Aldi's for me Wednesday morning.

Hylux: That was a main concern of mine,t he large body on it, where to mount it now

Does it have a 'scan' function ? this is a must I reckon when travelling !
My UHF (not an Aldi) is fixed to the under dash panel in front of your left knee, as this panel only clips in and I was a bit suss that the weight of the radio may make the panel come loose when you hit the rough stuff but so far so good ! I bent/played with the bracket a little so it sits square etc. I have not hit it once yet with my knee but might depend how long your legs are I guess ! I would not expect the speaker and mic etc to be as good a quality as the GME or Uniden etc but hey, you can't argue with the price ! cheers, David

Repco are doing the Oricom UHF088 with a 6DB ariel combo for $199.00. This has controls on the Mic handpiece

Saw it in the Fathers day Catalogue
