2012 sr5 reverse camera wiring

Postby dilkesy84 on Fri, 29 Jun 2012 10:05 +0000

Hi All,
Has anyone retro fitted the factory toyota reverse camera to the latest hilux?
I have a new sr 5 and have purchased the kit from my local dealer, apparently there is a signal wire for the reverse tucked up behind the headunit wiring to trigger the camera in reverse to display on the screen.
Also has anyone had a go at removing the climate control panel and headunit/gps screen from their dash, is there any special keys i need to get the unit out of the dash?
I have got instructions in the kit but these do not show the sr5 dash and stereo only the sr..
Any tips would be appreciated,
Cheers

There is a thread on this already have a search

The whole surround around the stereo just pulls off, no screws, the climate control comes with it, then four screws to get stereo out.

The smaller of the two harnesses in the kit PZQ60-00150 (which includes reverse signal green, and two others) is most probably already connected and coiled up behind your stereo so don't bother using the new supplied one, uncoil the green and run it to under the passenger seat, recoil up the other two wires, they are not needed.

The green reverse signal needs to be joined with a red/white stripe wire under the passenger seat, use a multimeter to double check you have the correct wire.

everything else as per the supplied instructions

One more tip

Flick through the instructions until you locate the appropriate cable run diagram for your car, rip this page out of the book and tear it to threads with your teeth, place in garbage bin(preferably steel) and include 2 litres of petrol, set alight.

It may keep you warm which is more useful than it was as a diagram.

Hi Just trying to find some info about 2012 SR5 installation of reverseing camera any help from Toyota techs would be appreciated. I have just today installed a genuine Toyota reverseing camera into my SR5 dual cab, after following all instructions carefully from this forum & the main points of the included Toyota instructions all went extremely well, the camera is working perfectially, just got to decide exact location for best spot to drill holes to mount the camera. I installed the reverse lead(green) onto the red/white wire at the fuse block below the steering wheel as shown on this forum,I think it is a good idea because to get at it under the seat you have to unbolt the seat,no need to do that if you do not have to.---What I would really like to know if anyone has connected the the purple wire which is the speed sensor into the sat nav unit it was also coiled up with the reverse sensor wire that we use. It has a crimp connector on it just like the green one, what does it supposed to do? & can it be connected safely to a wire somewhere in the Hilux. Anyone with a wiring diagram info much appreciated.THANK YOU. 8-)

Thank you Anndy for posting that information. I had trouble understanding why my Toyota reverse camera installation did not work. The trick was the green cable (wrapped up behind the stereo) connected to the red wire with the white stripe (under the front passengers seat) as you suggested. Something that Toyota seems to have left out of the instructions supplied. Anyway, it worked perfectly. Thanks again.

Has any one found a good spot where to mount the camera? Where ever I put it I seem to loose to much image due to the bumper bar or the tail gate..

I hear ya mate. I have the same issue.
I mounted mine just above the number plate but I had to angle the camera down to get less of the tailgate showing on the video.
Might have to look into it a bit more.

I have a non standard bar so I have no advise on where you could put your camera, one thing I did notice when playing with mine is the higher the camera is and looking down the easier to tell how close you are to an object.

I was thinking about mounting it about the brake light in the centre of the tailgate, that one it is higher and looks down better, plus hopefully I can hide the cord with the ute liner

The wire connects to the ecu behind the glove box. The reason for this wire is so when you exceed a certain speed reversing (6 kph if I recall right) the cam turns off. No one likes this so it is hardly every connected.

You can get the Toyota ute fitment bracket which has side and top flaps on it. mount the bracket up then mount the camera. If done right there should be no more glare from the number plate lights

The ute fitment looks like it would do nothing other than protect the camera from damage. As soon as the cover would go past the camera to block anything, I'd imagine vision would be affected. If it was a matter of being fitted correctly, I'd like to hear of someone without the issue and see some photos of how it's fitted. Spoke with Toyota the other day about it, and they said bracket (as shown above) wouldn't help, and that its fitted to the only place that it can be on a tub fitted ute. I'd love to prove them wrong if anyone has suggestions

The factory reverse camera. I understand the earlier tips on the under dash info but as I am yet to purchase the camera from Toyota I would like to no does it come with any wires. Toyota say with a sr5 there is no wiring harness required. Where does it get power from. Is it a job someone with a bit of electrical knowledge can do at home.
