SR5 2wd low

SR5 2wd low

Postby ernnie on Sun, 08 Apr 2012 7:13 +0000

Within the Post 05 electrical forum there is a modification that can turn the 4wd Low into a 2wd Low by interupting a signal to the front vacuum actuator. This sounds like a fantastic mod to have for moving the trailer around. Does anyone know if this can be done on the pre 05 model SR5??? Thanks Guys

Hi,

try and locate your 4WD ecu and unplug it (while the car is turned off, just in case it blows something.)

regards.

just above the gearbox there is a blue plug from memory, unplug that and you will have 2wd low (you'll have to manually select 4wd when shifting into low range)

its more widely used for things like reversing trailers up driveways, boats out of the water etc on road surfaces where diff wind up would be a problem otherwise..

There was a thread in here somewhere where someone wired a switch so that when you selected low range, you flicked the switch and it terminated the power to the front diff thingamajigo, thus allowing low range 2wd.

Throw some aisin manual hubs on the front wheels, if u don't lock the hubs in when 4low is selected u have low2wd.

as per other thread. for pre 2005 SR5 hilux's.

disconnect that sensor. that sensor there appears to short out the 4wd circuit when you flick the gear stick into low range.

so once that is disconnected, you can shift from high range to low range in 2wd with the option of pressing the 4wd button on the short gear stick to lock it into 4wd in either high range or low range
