Re: LIKKLEbit's 2004 sr5 build - intercooler on my 1kz

Postby csale on Fri, 15 Mar 2013 1:35 +0000

Thanks there Max. And thanks for the advice on the gearing ratio in past.

Intercooler has been mounted. Initially I had a boost leak but that's sorted today with a replacement silicone hose from the turbo to the i/c.

I haven't cut the bonnet yet. Did a test drive and I do notice the turbo doesn't spool up as quick.... I'm skeptical at this point if the mod is worth it without a chip or dump pipe. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Ok I figured out my problem.... The intake pressure sensor that came on the intercooler for the 1kd engine is not the same sensor that the 1kz uses. I replaced the sensor that came with the intercooler with the one for the 1kz and presto! Vehicle performs as it should! Now I have no reservation in cutting the bonnet tonight!

In the image the 1kd sensor is in my hand and the 1kz sensor is attached.

hey mate

Nice Ute, I'm looking at doing the cooler upgrade at the moment, just wanted to know how easy it was to fit the d4d cooler to the 1kz-te did the cooler to turbo pipe come with the cooler and bolt straight up? also did the cooler come with any mounts or did you make your own. any info would be appreciated!!. Hey Adam,
It fits right up with the following parts:
From the turbo to the stock intercooler pipe
(2) 2" silicone intercooler hose
(1) 2"diameter x 4" aluminum pipe
From the intercooler to your new intake flange
(1) 2.5" silicone intercooler hose
(1) 2.5" diameter x 2 or 3" aluminum pipe
(1) 90 degree 2.5" silicone hose
And all relevant clamps of course

I got the intercooler with the pipe that comes from the turbo. It all fits up easily. I had to make my own brackets to mount it to the available threads in the engine. Everything took m8x1.25 bolts.

Last me know if you need any pics or other info.... And good luck with the bonnet cut!

Thanks for the info mate, much appreciated! I've got 2 mounts done 1 to go (I'm hoping 3 will be enough :?) can you post a picture of your intake flange to cooler set up? I gonna head down and get some silicone hoses tomorrow. oh and yeah have you cut your bonnet yet, got any pics?

I think he used the sensor that came with the intercooler from the new hilux which caused the issue.

He then just used his old one and it worked fine.

Correct... the original pressure sensor for the 1KZ is the one to use. The sensor for the 1KD gave me worries for a day.

Hey man, we are neighbors, I am in the Dominican Republic, good to find closeby people here, whenever you come to the DR, let me know, I'll take you out with my mates. Awesome hilux, great job.
If it can't go where I want to go, then it is either useless, or I 'm not thinking straight.

Yes the Dominican Republic looks like a great place to go wheelin'. Thanks for the offer, and the same is extended to you!

Hey mate, nice truck! Just wondering if you can take a couple of pics of the bonnet scoop from the front? Want to see what it looks like as I might be doing it to mine soon.

Cheers!
