Hello all,
After scanning this forum, meeting some great people through my intoduction page, and getting some basic answers from all of you gurus... Here's my build page!
I will be a bit slow, but i'll update as soon as things are done.

About me:
I'm from and live in Jamaica.
My first love is motocross so I always ensure i drive a truck.
This is my 3rd vehicle and i've had it for 3 years now.
Ive always wanted a lift and the like but theres not really any of that going on here in Jamaica. There are however alot of Hilux's around and they are known to be great and dependable vehicles.

What I have:
2004 3.0L TD sr5. Got it bone stock and installed a vaiar 150psi compressor and 2.5gallon airtank mounted ontop of my tow bar (well hidden). Along with the air kit there is a double trumpet semi truck horn to scare the locals and taxi drivers when they get out of hand :)
50mm susp lift rancho's, ball joint spacers and slight TB wind up, lift shackles
low profile bump stops
Safari snorkel
Turbo timer



My plans:
50mm Body lift. - DONE
33x 12.5 tyres - DONE
as many lightforce lights as i can fit :) - DONE
roll bar
xrox bar - DONE (custom xrox styled bar)
Aisin freewheel hubs - DONE
removal of all chrome
marlin crawler style rear bumber
Diff and gearbox breathers DONE
Front and rear ARB lockers and regear for 33" Tyres DONE
Top mount intercooler from a 1kd DONE

On with the beginning stages of the lift....

Thanks to advice from Putsy and eMOJO I purchased some Rancho RS5000 struts from the U.S., lift shackles and new bushings, will wind up the TB's.

Yesterday I went ahead and installed the Rancho's. I like to install items one at a time so i can get a feel for what each upgrade does. The initial prognosis is good! it seems to handle the potholes and patched roads well, not as harsh. The bigger holes and curb climbing (where i live i have to every once in a while) seem to have about the same feel. I figure thats the nature of the struts being "progressive" as i believe they are advertized.

The ride height is no different as yet. I am waiting on delivery of the bushings for my shackles before installing and winding up the torsion bars.

Looking good Christian, yeah the difference with the shocks is subtle as expected but you'll notice a greater improvement/difference when you wind the TB's and put the extended shackles in... I actually noticed the most difference with my shackles as the OEM ones are flimsy at best.

With the 33x12.5 tyres, you'll find these might scrub depending on what rim offset you go for... I run a 285x75 (33 x 11.5) on 16" -22 offset rims and I've had to trim my front mudflaps right back and that's with 2" suspension and 2" body lift... but I have also trimed my front bump stops for more travel (my CV's hate me).

Yea seems best price and availability option for me at this pont is to get a set of 15"x8" Pro Comp Rock Crawlers: http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Rock- ... CW52-5883F
The backspasing choice is 3.5"(-19mm offset) or 3.75" (-25mm offset). In my mind the bigger negative offset would be best for a 12.5" wide tyre.
My tyre options will most likely be Goodyear wrangler MT/R, or Maxxis Bighorns...

Any opinions on what offset i should go with here?

The Rock Crawlers are great, that's what I run... just keep in mind that the wider offset increases the radius of your steering (pivot point to outside edge of tyre) so at full lock they could actually scrub worse... nothing a bit of work with a grinder won't fix :lol:

Thanks Erin... If the -19mm offset will work i will go with that for sure.

Got 2 items in the mail today:
One was a steal @ USD$200.. had to jump the gun and get em...

Awesome looking SR5 mate! Making me want to do more to mine, The flares look good.

I like how you added some local grog to the Lightforces ;)
For the tailgaters, If you think im going slow now. Wait till i hit my low gears

Tomorrow I'll be picking up the bushing set for my rear leaf and shackles. Will install if i get the time to check the mechianic 8-)

And there's another item that'll soon be in my hands...

Yesterday I installed the shackles with a bit of work... The lift shackles I got for the same year tacoma were a but wide on the frame and moreso on the leaf end. With some new stock bushings and rearrangement of the poly set that I got out of the U.S. as well the mechanics and I managed to work it out (albeit with a bit of a bend on the each shackle). The new shackles are heavier and seem beefier than stock, they feel good and i'm still keeping an eye on them.

End result is 47mm lift in the rear!

Front TB wind up tomorrow or later in the week. I will do myslef in the driveway because i dont trust the mechanic shop to be precise. They did recommend I realign after wind up, is this true advice?

Wound up the TB's last night... result is 30mm of lift. I did 10 revolutions on each side to achieve this. I read that thats the most that should be done?
