gordie's luxie

Postby gordie on Sun, 24 Apr 2011 4:05 +0000

Hi all, well I finally found what I have been looking for.
a 2000 SR5 3ltrTD pretty close to being a blank canvas(stock)
As this tread is in the build up secion I am going to try and build her up a little bit.
I have come from a very capable 80 series with a bit of fruit on it, and not being to comon with the hilux community I am going to need some help as to what can be done and what can't. I don't need to go really out there with the mods, just enought to turn my wagon into a nice tourier.
I have a wish list as I'm sure we all do , but I'm just a bit short on some of the finer details and the right companies that I should talk too. So any input would be great.
Thanks heaps guys
cheers gordie

I will try and post some photos so the build up can be followed, I hope this works

Thanks for the replys guys
To days effort
Well the HF radio is wired in and tested :D and as I suspected I am going to need a new bullbar  to handle the weight and other stuff  . I don't want a custom bar, just one that I can get a couple of extra mounts welded on before it was painted or powder coated, oh and it would have to be winch compatable.
a bit picky, I know but I may as do it right from the word go.
So any ideas then what sort of bar have other owners used and found to be great.

also I am in the market for a long range tank, all that I have found don't hold enough. Are there any over 130lts, need to carry heaps of fuel for my yearly fishing trip :D :D
cheers

Mate as for the fuel tank, you might need to get a replacement (130L) than a sub tank (like 80L or something)...
But what about a custom made fuel tank, than you can have it as big as you want depending on how much room you want to take up...

As per what Jack said mate a replacement tank would be the way to go.
I have a 140 Long Ranger tank from ARB in my car.

Everything that you are asking for ARB can help you out and im sure that every where else can as well.

My car's just kitted in ARB stuff so thats what i know about.

If you go on the website you can type in your make and model and year and check everything on there.

http://www.arb.com.au/products/

They have plain commercial bull bar that should have everything you need on it

Theres the link to the fuel tanks.

Let me know if theres anything else.

Enjoy!
Cheers Seb.

Thanks, at this stage I am looking at a OL for a 120ltr tank thats the bigest I can find of the shelf so to speak,
and a couple of the other places I went to just gave me a price list and said to ring them when I had made my mind up. anyway,

Seb I have been thinking and I do have quite a list. I know I wont be able to fit it all in like I did with my last 4B but I am dam sure I'll give it a good go.

My wish list is,
new bullbar, tank as well as I'm thinking of a ploy tank for up the front of the tray , duel battries( thats another story), canopy, roof rack, also I need 3 or 4 SR5 chrome rims for my camper, 50mm lift maybe, a new Icom 440 uhf cause the last one went in that other car.

Now the dilemma I have with the battries is this, as far as I can find out I can only get a 8" battery in the front because of room. I needed to put a 10" in the last car cause I run 2 engels, a 40 as a freezer and a 32 with a 25ltr two zone for food and the odd ale

The rest of the stuff that is not on my list is pretty straight forward and I have it all in hand, I think  .

Thanks for your advice and help

As to do with batteries, is a tripple battery set-up out of the question?

I recall one bloke on the forum has this.....

I had a quick measure up this afternoon and I think for the time being I might put the fridges on either side in the rear and mount the 1200cca  battery in between them and run some 10mm wire to charge it.
don't like this very much the bloody thing is so heavy, but will do for now.
cheers

Mate we all start somewhere and luckily enough you have found this forum as the advice on here is worth big $$$ to your bank account, so you don't make the wrong choices.

Anyway mate search and read away and if you have any queries just post them up on one of the threads

Well here is a update.
I have got the battery thing sorted, I ended up putting a tray under the bonnet which I cramed a 9inch deep cycle in it(which sould do for day trips without the camper) and run cable to a anderson son plug at the rear to use and charge the campers 2x1000. this will do the trick.

As for the bullbar it will go too the powder coaters this week after a visit to the mate who is a boilermaker to have the extra mounts put on. This is the cheapest way out, I will jut have to forgo the winch for the time being.

And as for a fuel tank I have got a 130 ltr replacement tank(yet to be fitted) and I will put a 50ltr fuel and a 50ltr water plastic against the front of the tub for when out and about touring

cheers gordie

Update: Well I have fitted a out back overhead console with a 128 channel Icom uhf and a set of black duck seat covers I have liked them for some years now and just could not aford them so I did bite the bullet and got some they are a really great fit also fitted the brake controler for the camper.
I found a problem with the position of the antanna mounting I have my phone antanna too close to the multi tune HF antanna which will now not tune, so I will have to move it away some, bummer really another hole to drill.
If anyone can point me in the right direction for a set of lightforce genesis 210 at the right price I would really appreciate that.
I think that is all for now.
cheers
