I'm finally getting around to turboing the hilux. Could anyone give me any suggestions on kits and workshops in Vic? I'm looking into a dts kit or turbo glide.

I fitted the DTS kit to my 89 lux, great kit easy to fit and good power increase. Had on the dual cab for over 8 years with zero probs.

A mate had the dts on his as well it was fine, I put the denco through diesel care up here in qld on my 99 3 litre ran about 8-10 psi with no dramas, better fuel economy as i was only using half the throttle position as i was without the turbo and heaps more power. I was out west and in the 40+ days of summer sometimes it would get warm when running flat out on the highway, an intercooler would have helped
Im not stuck..... Im thinking

I can get a dts kit off eBay for 2.5k how much are the turbo glide and axt kits worth? Think they are about a grand more, why that? Is it worth running oil cooler and intercooler? How much more would it cost and would it be worth it for the gains I'll get?

Make sure the kit has an exhaust, or if not get one !! and make sure you go to someone who knows diesels to set it up. When i did mine it was like a different car overtaking was easy and just press the go pedal and it went, and i used less fuel. Its defiantly a mod worth doing !!!

Like i said i had trouble with heat in summer but it was 40-45+ where i was living and all trips were 2hrs + so flat out full boost for all that time, no wonder it got hot. I put a bigger radiator in but still had issues. Id recommend and the intercooler and oil cooler, or atleast the intercooler and see if you need the oil cooler and add that later if you do. But you can run it with neither, i did. But 8psi is about your limit with no intercooler or oil cooler. Thats why you need someone who knows what they are doing to set it up on a dyno and not over do your boost. but as i said even running 8-9psi the difference was amazing.

Any off the shelf kits are good, just see about the exhaust (my kit came with one), intercooler and oil cooler options.

anyone recon thats an alright price? i like the idea of running a t28, just not sure what i should be paying for 1 with manifold and gaskets and what not, can get a mate to do all my piping for me so not having that isnt much of an issue.

sorry guys, havent been on in a while.

eastell - 2nd battery is behind my left headlight, opposite my main battery, i can put a pic up if you want?

Curtis129 - thanks mate! the bullbar came with the car when i bought it, i think the guy i bought it off made it himself? i know he did the side steps and rear step. im actually thinking of selling it if your keen, make an offer?

fgk228 - yeah the 32s scrub a little, they have put a hole in my water bottle for my windscreen washers... 33s are going on in the next few weeks so im going to have to get the grinder and hammer out i think :s

blacksnakes - yeah the headlights are off an sr5, wasnt too hard to fit. Had to cut the bracket out that hold the original headlights in but appart from that it wasnt too hard.

was thinking of selling the lux for a new shape gu, have recently decided to keep the lux and mod it a bit more with the money i saved for the gu. slowly stocking up on parts, have an axt turbo kit here ready to go on along with a dpchip. 33s, defi egt, boost and oil temp gauges, greddy electric boost controller, 3" straight through exhaust and will also be building a new steel tray for it. Still tossing up changing bullbar and steps over to xrox bar and sliders. Anyone got some pics of an extra cab with comp bar and steel tray???

bit of an update on the lux.
in the last month, dpchip has been put on, axt turbo kit, 2.5'' straight through exhaust, shadow turbo timer and saas boost gauge (will be replacing soon with defi smoked face gauges EGT, Boost and oil temp) and retuned to suit mods.

next 6 months should see custom steel tray, intercooler, 33/35s and another 2'' lift :)

all work has been done by myself, ill also be building the steel tray. not bad for a chippy

What do you think of the AXT turbo so far? How much was it overall for the turbo stuff? (turbo, injectors, etc.)

Looking really awesome though :D

got the kit 2nd hand for 1800, came with turbo, piping, turbo timer, boost gauge. came of a 5L which is why i think the piping is bent under the bonnet so i had to put a 45 degree silicone hose on rather than a straight.
all up ive probably spent around 3.5k on kit, chip, exhaust, tune, silicone hoses and other little bits and pieces. injectors were changed not that long ago so didn't have to buy new ones :) Did all the install myself, was quoted 800 from outback 4x4 to install :s so saved a lot there.

so far im very happy with the axt kit! feels like im driving a petrol now :) except it sounds like a truck :)

not sure on bar, it was on the car when i bought it, from memory the guy said it was made by him, he was an engineer from memory. Was thinking about changing it to an xrox bar or similar but i haven't seen another one like mine and the brush bars and rock sliders are rock solid so ill probably stick with it for a while longer.

cheers for the positive feedback :) keep checking in for updates!
