Looking great. I had a Hilux with 1uz and was great fun... I ran the auto and surf trabsfer case. Seeing this makes me wanna buy a extra cab an do it up. Plus learn how to weld

Fabbed up the engine mounts . Just used the factory rubber mounts ( but new ) and made the braket between rubber mount and the 1uz block.

Twin transfers came back off to be bolted to the 1uz auto , they have diferrent ratios v8 being taller, so will suit the reduction gears better .Also means the complete loom with engine and auto computers can be run as per factory.

In the tunnel it all tucks up nicely- above the chassis rails.

You can see the sump top left of pic in its position all bolted in . almost level with the chassis rails . Theres about 10mm clearance at the drivers side of the sump to the pumpkin when the truck sits on the bump stops so it will probably need a bit more for when it crashes into them under compression. Interestingly in articulation it has heaps of clearance either side - its only on straight down it could hit.

Here is its final position bolted to the engine mounts.

just buy a 79 series front diff and go for gold... my pile of SAS parts is growing daily.

Scott,

how does it drive on road? like a 5 inch lifted 80 series? or better due to the lighter vehicle weight?

the reason i ask is the 80 series geometry has the diff centre line and chassis radius arms at the same level. does it bump steer or buck?

regards,

The lighter weight actually makes it worse. Brother has a lifted 80 with superior arms and it is better. When the x-link went in we used it to correct the castor rather than offset bushes etc, the major contributer to harshness in the ride is exactly what u described -the relative angle created between the chassis mounting points and the diff. The lesser this angle can be (regardless of what castor settings etc @ the diff ) the more bumps are transfered down the chassis towards the rear and not up into the cab. The only cure for an onroad truck is custom drop boxes or to flip the arms above the diff.

Flipping the arms wont change anything as the centre point of the axle doesnt move and thats the relative centre to the chassis mounting points.

i think having the arms flipped would help it keeps the arms much flatter in saying that my ute drive like a dream its just a matter of getting the castor right

The " steepness" of the radius arms does effect the ride quality on road, regardless of castor or relative centre. The flatter the angle of the arms the more verticle shock loading is transfered longitudinally through the chassis .
Jeeps are a great example because the control arms are so short- a relatively small lift- 3inchs plus will create great shock loading to the driver. Similar in short wheelbase patrols- though not as dramatic cause the arms are longer.

Scott,

I started my SAS last week and I'm now up to the alignment stage.
Have you got any photos of the radius arm mounts on the chassis from the inside? My mounts seem to be all on the inside.
It is pretty crazy how many brackets Toyota had to hold the IFS gear in the front... I'm so sick of grinding!
I'll put a build thread up when I make some progress.
