A P Platers 'Official' Build

Hey guys and girls, I've already got a build posted up but it was pretty rushed and not very detailed so this is gonna be my 'official' build.

I bought the ute mid September last year as I was getting my Ps early December and wanted to do a bit to it before I started driving. The ute came with a factory snorkel, factory bar, steel tray and tinted windows. Everything else was factory except for the tyres. Image

I drove it around for a couple weeks like that before I did any mods just to get the feel of it as I had come from learning to drive a manual in an F250 :twisted: . Big difference

Anyway, had been doing a bit of night driving and the stock headlights were pretty shocking so I put an El Cheapo 20" lightbar off ebay on it which I was pretty impressed with. The previous owner had a set of spotties on it but I couldn't talk him into sellin em, so I used the existing wiring for the lightbar. After about a month there were fuses blowing left right and centre so I tore the lightbar and wiring out of it and found that the wiring used was real dodgy so I kept the bar off it for a while.

When I got the ute the rear tyres were smooth as, so I was just gonna replace them as the front ones were brand new but I bit the bullet and put new tyres and wheels. After a bit of looking around, I got a pretty good price for a set of 245/75r16 KO2s, which in hindsight I should have gone 265, but all part of the learning experience I suppose :roll:
Put a set of black sunnies in with the tyres and I reckon it changed the look of the ute to no end.Image

After that blow to the savings, I wanted a bit more light output so i landed a set of lightforce 240 Blitz converted to 35w HIDs and threw the lightbar back on with new wiring. Love the spotties but the reflection off signs is pretty harsh and i wouldn't go any bigger than 35w, saying that they throw a heap of light down the tracks and the lightbars is partnered perfectly with them.

Put some reverse/work lights on the tray too which helped a heap when reversing, i just wired em up so that they can only come on when the ignitions on and don't come on with reverse as theyd definitely be a bit hard on the eyes for someone behind me in town.

After driving it around for a while on my Ps, the ute felt like at was getting rougher and more unstable when conering which i thought was the new tyres but i realised it was the suspension. I had always wanted to put a lift in it cause i like the look of em and i want to be able to carry a bit of weight as well. After doing a bit of shopping around, i decided on going with EFS due the the quality, price and the place in town had them in stock. Got the lift put in early January and i was really impressed with the ride and the look. It handled better around corners and was a lot smoother than before. the only problem was that the tyres didn't fill the wheel arches as much as they did before, but already planning for a set of 32" KM2s :twisted:

That's the old girl after the lift. It ended up being a 3" in the back and a 2" in the front because of the 300kg constant springs.

So that's about it, got a few smaller things like a Bluetooth radio, led interior light and changed the colour of the dash lights to blue just to keep from getting bored. Did an EGR clean the other week and found about 10-12mm of crap all through the elbow, throttle body and inlet manifold which took about 4 hours to clean but the fuel economy has increased dramatically which is pretty schmick. Always doing stuff to her and doing abit of offroading when i can. Next thing on the list is a new bar. Cant decide over ARB, xrox or buds customs. Have to wait and see what the funding decides :D

build is looking great man. Good to see you getting into it. Where'd you get your reverse lights from? Pretty keen to get some for my car, but keep putting it off - finding other things to buy haha.

I'd go the ARB bar mate. My cousin had an XROX on hers and it never seemed to sit properly. We took it on and off so many times. I have a Buds bar on mine. I love the bar, and the work is amazing, but I don't think I could wait eight months for a bullbar again. If I ever have to get a bullbar again, I think I'd just go with an ARB sahara bar. Its just a bigger chunk out of the bank... but all fourbie stuff is like that anyway!

Cheers mate. Got the lights of eBay. Always the way isn't it? :lol: shit, that's a wait and a half. Yeah I I'll probably go with the ARB. Thanks for the feedback

Looking good mate. Might I suggest some side steps, rails or even sliders if you want to go that far? I dunno about everybody else but no protection under the doors gives me the heeby jeebies off road!

Another good thing with the sahara is you can buy replacment hoops with light bar recess so you lightbar isn't above the top hoop nore is it blocking the radiator,
All and all good first car
My first mods on my 09 were all the free one, backseat tilt, seat belt chime,

How do you find your rear shackle Angel with the +300 in rear?
My efs sit straight up so good for carting load but crap off road as my down flex is gravely restricted, I ended up moving the fixed hanger back to give me a better shackle Angel, the + in this was it also moved rear wheel back giving more clearance between cab and tyre under flex, but a new tail shave or spacer will be required

Yeah I've been looking at them, not a bad idea.
I've done the backseat mod and all the chimers to restore my sanity ;)

That's the angle I got on me shackles. Haven't done any real hard off-roading yet but I have found the flex is restricted a bit.

That's not bad for +300kg
Possible the all steel tray is helping
I've got +150 3" probley the same part number as +300kg 2" and mine sit at 84deg with stanard length stackers and 87deg with 2" extended
I would have been rapped with that angle from the get go, moving the bracket back is a pain and costly

Have you fitted longer shocker to rear yet? If not that will help with down travel

Nah haven't put longer shock in, I'm thinking of waiting for the EFS warranty to run out then put monster rides reckon in her

Cheers Knoxy, not bad mate. Pretty well the same as KOs road wise but are a fair bit tougher off road. Not too bad in mud but if ya gonna do a fair bit of it id go with muddies. I got a video of me driving her through a full contour bank in real black sticky mud that I'll try and put up. Nothing to special but I was surprised how they went.

I was talking to one of my mates about my Bluetooth head unit and he reckons P platers can't have the hands free microphone so I have it hid behind here.Image

AFAIK, this is true. P-Platers are also not allowed to have their phone being used as a navigational device. Hell, I doubt they can have it in a bloody mount.

Then again, you're also supposed to have the keys out of the ignition if you're in the car and on your phone, even if you're parked off to the side of the street...I always used my phone to navigate whilst on my provisionals and never had a problem with the police. However, like they say, you get one bad cop...

Pretty draconian law (as is the 80km/h to 100km/h limits) but not much that you can do :roll: Nice little spot you've got for it though ;)
