1992 2.8D - Old becomes new - small restoration

Postby LFC09 on Thu, 04 Jun 2015 1:56 +0000

Inherited this old girl from my dad's estate.
1992 5sp manual 2.8D with 180000km. From a farming life, to rural acreage. I've had the hilux for 4 years, and watched the cab surface rust slowly spread.
Time for a refresh.
Going - Bull bar, side steps, brush guards. Old steelies. Cow dents in doors. Worn vinyl flooring
Coming - stock front bumper, probably add a nudge bar; powder coat steel tray; ROH Blak Trak 16s; Yoko Geos; New colour scheme. Supafit seat covers (Denim Black); front half vinyl flooring.
Fix the A/C.
Mild stereo upgrade.
Kids will learn to drive in it.
Vehicle of choice for mountain bike trips.

That's great.
I figure at the rate I use mine, I'll get another 20yrs or more out of her.

Looks nice mate and it has very low km's for its age so its a keeper.

If you find that you need some extra power, you could always add a turbo and 2.5" straight through exhaust on it depending on your budget. That will give it some extra HP and you won't have any issues climbing hills with a fully loaded ute.

need to have a chat to some clever ppl about power increases - performance injectors and tune versus whole hog turbo route.

Look at getting extractors and a 2.5" straight through exhaust for extra power

No rust around glass, front or rear.

Vinyl flooring a bit sad.

finally some colour is on.
Exhaust being done today, hopefully colour except doors finished tomorrow. Doors still need to be prepped, a few dings to be knocked out.

very happy with how she's come out, have added some new door rubbers (ouch!).
Not as happy with the vinyl 1/2 floor from nobullaccessories though.

Image

Had to use the trailing edge of the 'old' vinyl to cover the gap between the new front 1/2 and the existing rear piece.
Probably should have bought the full floor in hind sight.

Had extractors and new exhaust fitted. Spent one hour on a dyno tune for bit for fuel and timing. Good for about 20% in power  , and slight increase in black exhaust
I will post up the dyno graph (impressive!) tonight.
