Postby Destinationtoby on Sun, 16 Mar 2014 6:24 +0000

Hey hey guys so I travelled down to Melbourne to pick up this beast the other day. Drove her back home (mid north coast nsw) and man is it a fun car to drive!
I Know absolutely noing about these, so all the help and advice is very much appreciated! Thanks
The 3rz is from a newer model hilux yess?
Can anyone help me out with the specs on it, so I know what oils to use etc.
I have to take it for a blue slip as it didn't come with a road worthy. Am I going to have trouble with the turbo, lift kit, loud exhaust ?!?
No real plans for it other then a whole lot of exploring :) :)
Some black rims and maybe paint all the bars black.

Anyway here's the specs:

replaced the standard 22r motor a 2004 3rz motor (2.7 efi).
It now has a Garrett gt3540 turbo bought new april 2014.
LC engineering mild cam
Front mount intercooler
550cc injectors
External waste gate
3in exhaust
Inline air filter with 3in snorkel
Haltech Sprint 500 piggy back ECU (this was installed and tuned by Rev Zone in Ringwood)
Noisy as sh*t Bosch 040 external fuel pump
Boost gauge
Gizzmo MS-IBC multi scramble Boost controller stage one-12psi & stage two-16psi
Oil filter relocation kit
Dual battery's located under the tray
Second fuel tank 55L
12V socket on back of the cab for a fridge
2 additional 12V sockets inside
UHF radio
Jvc CD player with Bluetooth
Jvc 6x9s in the doors
Bucket seats to replace original bench seats
Sound proofed the floor pan and guards with body deadener and new carpet
Centre console out of SR5 Hilux
Lockable box inside the cab to keep wallets, phones etc
Custom tray with LED tail lights, also have separate reverse lights as well as side work lights all on separate switches which is great for camping. Tray also has a trap door which is great for putting dirty recovery gear in
Custom front tube bar with 9000 pound tigerz 11 winch.
Roo light 180 with 70w HID kit in them
Air horns
Custom sliders
Rear diff rebuilt earlier this year with true track LSD which completely locks when it starts to slip. its a mechanical LSD not the traditional clutch plate style
Front diff has a lokka diff lock
Front diff has been moved forward 35mm to help clear bigger tyres
Adjustable drag link
Adjustable torque rod
Near new EFS 2" suspension lift kit with new bushes and steering dampener.
2" body lift
Low profile cross member
33x12.5 Federal mud tyres
Has the wiring and brackets for a Baja Designs 40in Stealth light bar in the roll bar.

It ran 181 kw at the wheels on 33's. surprises the absolute sh*t out of people at the lights
Gets reasonably good fuel economy around 6.6 km per litre. Depending lol
Theres a heap of other little things that I'll list when I can remember

And some pics :)

Engineer is happy to sign off on every mod, as soon as I get the exhaust under 90DB and I drop it back down 2inches...
Question! How hard is it to remove the body lift???? I can clearly see the spacers under the cab, is it as simple as just removing them?
I've done a search and can't find anything on removing/lowering.
Thanks

Yer it's sorta as easy as that. Bullbar will have to be dropped as it looks to be lifted.
The tray
With the conversion you have to see if u have clearance to drop the body 2" around motor.

Well I certainly don't have the clearance to drop the body, everything has been built up with it.
Everything else is done and passed blue slip no worries today :D engineered the seats, engine swap, turbo & tyres.
Painted rocker cover, manifold & inter cooler piping.
Changed the wastegate and turbo gaskets.
And bought new rotors and a high flow cat.

Update!
I had a bad oil hose, so I had speedflow make up some braided lines and fittings to go from the oil cooler to the oil filter.
I installed them myself. I put them on the wrong way around, so oil was going from the sump to the filter and straight back. No oil was going to the engine or turbo at all, I found this out after about half an hour of driving I heard the turbo shit it self completely. Near new garret turbo gone! Then there was a very quiet knock in the bottom end of the engine. Switched the lines around and the knock was gone.. I know I've shortened the life of the engine big time, but for long I don't know... What do you guys think????
I've removed the turbo, wastegate, dump & manifold.. And put on some red back extractors, she's running rich, but I want to know if the engine will hang in there, before I go spend another 2k on a new turbo..
Took it for a fourby, sounds good still no knocks or taps.. Even without the boost, I was surprised how powerful the little 2.7 3rz is.
But yeah, how unlucky, haven't even owned the bloody thing for more then a few weeks and I ruined it!!

Thats one wicked hilux. seems like the best of both worlds, older solid axle body with the 2.7 petrol motor...

If you have run your motor with no oil. Then most likely have shorten the life but how long it will last. Is hard to say but if it's running fine now dw about.

Has been an eventful week.
Front winch was buggered ( winches out but doesn't winch in) so I ripped it out and sold for $70.
Whilst there I figured I'll give the bullbar a good coat with some white rust protection paint, then decided to do the front end + underneath aswell.
I was offered a bigger turbo (brandnew) from a friend that was going to put it on his Evo but didn't end napping for some reason. Anyway I got it cheap.
I didn't realise it was going to be so much bigger, the old one is a gt3076r (exact same as the xr6 turbo) the new ones a gt3540, which is the popular upgrade for the gsr's & wrexy's etc. good for over 600hp, it's running brilliant, massive noticeable increase in spooling and power.
Oh and I changed all the manifold, wastegate & turbo gaskets while I had it all out.

Nice build mate, keen to see what power increase you get from the newer turbo.
Cheers,
Jay

Got a new box in. Does anyone know how much oil it takes, aswell as the transfer ? And is Castrol VMX80 suitable to use in both ??

Not sure which gearbox you are running, but be about ~3.9L in the gearbox and 1.6L in the transfer case. And yes vmx80 should be suitable, they only say to use manual gearbox oil on the transfer anyway.
