So the new turbo was un-boxed for the install and the guys found that it was damaged, a impact mark on the compressor housing and also some of the impeller fins looked to be slightly bent. The turbo was shipped back off to AXT, though that was the last one in stock, going to be looking at about 7-10 days for the new stock to arrive and then it has to make it to Canberra.

If this is the worst of the hiccups I can live with that, is a bit disappointing as I have a new truck that I can't drive and I never have been much a fan of suspense. Also it is unlikely that the truck will make the booking with ARB for the 23rd.

Hopefully I will have better news in a week from now.

Always a chance, I did consider undertaking the same modifications on the old truck that had just run out of warranty, but I don't get to keep my trucks all that long so I would not have been able to enjoy the results for long. The cost to rebuild a new engine is the same as a old one at the end of the day, and we are all members on this forum because we are not satisfied with standard.

Well the progress this week has been slow, the guys at AXT are apparently still awaiting the new compressor wheels to arrive from the States and then they can assemble and ship the replacement turbo. So my truck sits there looking very clean and still not running. This means I will also miss my booking with ARB this week, all a bit depressing really!

To try and make the most of the truck being out of action I have ordered a suspension kit from Cal offroad, if I can get it fitted up while the truck is in the shop, I will be one step closer to getting this thing off road. I had some mates that recommended Cal offroad to me, and the guy I spoke to at Cal Offroad really seamed to know Hilux's. The gear should arrive during the week and they were able to pre-assemble the struts for me.

Been a long wait but I finally have the replacement turbo, long story that I will share when I have more time.

The turbo arrived last Thursday from AXT Turbo and the guys got busy bolting all the parts up to find that the actuator on turbo hits the block when bolted in place, this may be due to a slight change in the turbo series? To fix this we are having a 10mm spacer made to go between the exhaust manifold and the block giving us the clearance we need, the spacer should be ready today sometime.

Unfortunately this won't give us enough time to sort the tuning as the Hilux is booked in at ARB tomorrow to have all the bar work, lockers etc fitted. I have pushed them back three times now so we will get the truck running for the visit to ARB and then get it back to have the ECU's and tune sorted.

Good luck mate had nothing but trouble with the so called bolt on upgrade for my old triton from Axt . Same problem with the actuator hitting the block. Plus we could not get it to spool up before 2200 rpm . Went very well above 2200 but like an n/a below that rpm . Axt just told me it was my tuning,
That it needed more fuel. But we already had it at a ridiculous 14.1 a/r below 2000rpm . But hopefully things pan out different with your hilux .

Just had the same drama last night bolting one on to custmour car so I took the gate off and weld it shut and will adjust boost with fuel. This was not a very good bolt on kit.

Been a bit flat out with work lately, so my apologies for the lack of updates.

We have the turbo bolted on and the truck running, having a few issues with the ECU and so we have been unable to get much fuel into the truck at the minute, just whatever we could do with the fuel rail pressure. This means I get boost very late, it goes really strong from 3000rpm but is fairly underwhelming before that. As a result I get high EGT's to go with the lack of power.

The guys at AXT are closed for Melbourne Cup so it may be a few more days before I can get the answers I need to get it sorted and back on the dyno for proper tuning.

The mess around with the spacer on the exhaust caused me to miss my fourth booking with ARB, I think they may now hate me. If I don't have it sorted before the end of the week it will be two weeks before I get another chance to get it back for tuning, so glad I paid for a "bolt on kit"?
