Rhys's TD Lux **[SAS]** UPDATED PICS

Postby rholm3 on Tue, 11 Jun 2013 11:19 +0000

G'day,

Just thought I should share my lux, i've been a bit slack lately and haven't contributed much to the forum so here she is from the weekend at Scenic Rim.

I know it's a short video, but I'm working on getting some pics/video's from my mates who weren't driving and taking footage so I will probably just upload to my youtube channel for anyone who's interested.

Cheers,

Ok Sorry guys it HAS definitely been a while since I've updated my build...

So, basically last September I went to the Springs 4x4 for my Bucks weekend and blew my front diff trying to snatch a mate in his mitsubishi challenger up a hill (he had his flipping handbrake on), needless to say I wasn't happy!! haha

So I made the big decision to scrap my IFS and replace it with a Landcruiser 80 series front end. It's about halfway through at the moment as there has been alot of hickups along the way. I am struggling to post pics on here so once I work it out I shall do a full write up.

In the interim, feel free to check out my facebook page as I'm uploading progress pics every so often:

If anyone needs any IFS stuff let me know as its all cut out and looking for a home :)

Cheers,
Rhys

I'll be starting my build thread properly once I have a few more pictures sorted out but here's a teaser shot (If you haven't already seen my ute):

Well I just received my Boss Air compressor and tank on Friday and am currently trying to work out the best position to mount the compressor.

Under the bonnet won't work unless I can some how shift my brake booster too the side. I don't want to mount in my under tray box because once I go through water, they'll leak and i'll have a stuffed compressor ;)

So... Has anyone got any suggestions on where I could put it?? Is anyone on the forum using the Boss kit:

I'm using one, mounted in my undertray tool box underside down. The box is sealed with the only breathers being towards the bottom of the box - reasoning being that if I ever go through water as long as I don't turn the compressor on the air will form a pocket around the top of the box stopping water from filling it entirely.

Although by that same token I rarely take the ute offroad anymore as it has become a full time work hack. Also my boss seems to have stopped providing air pressure to the tank, something which I need to actually investigate one day.

Thanks Steven! Would you happen to have any photos of how you've installed yours? Have you got yours running off the main or an AUX battery in the box? I'm assuming the air tank is just sitting under the tray so you would have your air line going out of the box too?

My Boss and my 240v compressors use 2 tanks mounted under the tray, with the 240v compressor sitting on top of the tray and the air outlets etc in front of the tray behind the drivers door. Not an overly easy setup to explain. The Boss is powered off the main battery (single battery setup) that also ups the idle speed when the compressor is running to make sure it gets plenty of power.

The tanks (18L and 45L. Boss only feeds the 18L, 240 feeds both through a check valve)

WOW!! That looks neat, i'm very interested in seeing more sometime, are you in driving distance of Brisbane? I might have to come check it out personally if that's ok :D

Have you got your solenoid and fuse mounted inside your under tray box?

Yeah based on Brisbane's Northside.

The solenoid etc I've mounted in the engine bay up against the firewall.

Here is the Boss Air compressor I will be using:

It looks like a heavy duty compressor but also is fairly weighty, hoping it works out for me :D

Planning on buying some new KM2's for my daily tyres (upgrading from 32" to a 33").

Hopefully I'll get some more photos of the build in the next few weeks as it all comes to a close.. So I can start wheelin again!

Yea you're right... is it Aaron? This is Rowans old ute, I bought it from him completely stock and put the ol' buds bar and sliders back on and am getting them slightly modified to incorporate some scrub rails :D

These tyres are gonna stick out past my guard at least by 50-75mm, the 80 series diff pushes my stock tyres out roughly 25mm atm. But this doesn't concern me to much as those 35's are just going to be for weekends as the lux is still a 'daily'

Hopefully once she's done I'll be able to catch up with you and a few others with SAS'd lux's to see what people have done :)

you might be abit further out then that, your diff would be 1.5" wider each side then mine and my rims arn't as offset? Mine sticks out around 80-90mm each side, lol hench why if you look at my new tray its alot wider to cover this up :p

Do you know what offset rim you are running? Maybe I should just go a '0' offset rim (even though I like a bit of dish) to save on it sticking out to far either side?

Haha, for my daily's I'm running a 33x12.5x15 on a -22 rim so it'll sit similar to yours I guess so I may need to get some new guards folded for my stocko aluminium tray as they'll be sitting outside :S
