The Dudlux

Hi Guys,

Just picked up my lux tonight and thought I'd introduce myself. So here she is below. Nothing special at this point. 2012 SR5 Extra Cab D4D trayback trade in with 17,000Km on the clock. Safari snork, Toyota bull bar and not much else. I'm no stranger to custom work after doing an 85 lux and a sierra of my own and spending a good part of my uni life blindly fiddling with Team DGRs lux if anyone can remember that beast (which is still around). Since I'm getting old I thought it might be nice to build a more GF friendly touring rig. My 12 month plans are:

1. QLD NCOP allowed lift - Supposedly 2 inch but I might get away with 2.5.
2. Bigger rims and meat. 32 - 33 KM2 or KL71s
3. Home made steel tray with a better departure angle, rollbar and storage
4. Winch bar with winch and LED bar
5. Diff gears
6. Removable frame for the tray that incorporates a roof top tent and camping gear setup
7. Diesel chip?
8. Sliders?
9. *cough* Sub under rear seats *cough*. I know "lame" but it's my work rig too and I like me tunes :)

Welcome aboard mate.

Sounds like you have your plans all done. She will be a top rig after that

OK now I've been through the introductions I can ask the question I really wanted to start with. Being technically owned by my business I want to stay as close with the legal bounds as my imagination allows me. So with the new NCOP rules that came out this month we can take tyre size increases of 50mm. The tyre placard on my rig shows a measly (approx) 30 inches which gives me potential for 32s. But I noted the service manual shows a 17 inch rim variant that equates to over 31 inches (so 33 allowable). Does anyone know the real difference between the two models? I know on past vehicles the story goes that you can run the legislated allowable increase (15mm pre november) over and above any tyre diameter that was fitted as standard. Usually though the tyre placard would show all sizes. Mine only shows the approx 15 inch rim based variant not the 16 and 17 inch rim variant shown in the book.

Also yes I know 32-33s need at least 2 inch of suspension / body lift and possible guard massaging.

Thanks for the help,

Dud

Welcome. What I have seen done on commodores for wheel diameter increases is fit a hsv placard on an exec so if the placard says 19's you could for 21. What if you get one for a hilux with 17's. I think that's what you were suggesting anyway but I'm just confirming I have seen similar work.
