This is going to be my new trail rig that I'll prob do some mild comps in once finished... I still have the '04 which I have shelved a few plans for, it will still see the grinder one day

I'm calling this build p r o j e c t d r a b due to it's lack luster appeal and small budget, oh, and it might have something to do with the colour.

What I have so far... well, agreed to get:
  • LN65 X-CAB body
  • LN65 Single cab almost complete with a 2L driveline (chassis also stuffed)
  • LN65 X-CAB rolling chassis (this one is in good condition)
  • Trail Gear 3" lifted springs front and rear
  • Gear drive transfer - for duals
The cab will require a fair bit of work but have always wanted an X-Cab so should be worth it... at least it’s straight, oh, and it has the cool sliding rear cab window for passing brews to your bru sitting on the tray
The plan will be to get it all stock for rego... once rego is done I’ll be cutting off all the stock stuff that won’t be needed to end up with a finished trail specific rig.

:: t h e l i s t
  • LN65 X-CAB Hilux finished in drab khaki
  • Custom RHS steel tray with tube roll bars
  • Front tube winch bar
  • Tube sliders
  • Shorten rear chassis
  • Front diff moved forward
  • TG 3” lifted flex springs front + rear
  • High steer with IFS steering box
  • 2L 2.4lt diesel
  • Aftermarket turbo
  • 3” exhaust
  • Dual transfers – not sure if I’ll gear the rear case to 4.7
  • 4.88 Toyota 8” diffs
  • ARB’s front and rear
  • Bilstein shocks 10” front and 12” rear (will wait and see what size works best after the rest of the setup is done)
  • 35” tyres (prob run 33's until I re-gear it)
  • 15x8 black steel rims with -44 offset
  • Low mount winch
  • Cromo front axles, birfs and hub gears (longs or dirty thirty’s)
  • Dual batteries

I think that just about covers it. I’ll get some pics up as the gear starts to arrive – feel free to add any input as this is my first real build... oh, and don’t expect to see this thing on the trail any time soon.

Ok, so this project has had a little change of direction... this is what I picked up yesterday evening...

  • Single cab 86 Gen2
  • 3.8lt V6 with T400
  • 2" lifted springs - brand new
  • Rancho RS5000 shocks - brand new

Spares:

  • 3 doors
  • 2 bonnets
  • 4 extra front guards
  • 2 extra V6 engines
  • 1 extra T400 tranny
  • Alloy tray
  • 3 boxes of other stuff
  • Extra F&R diffs

The original project drab will still be happening and my brother will be taking it over... this was a deal I just couldn't let go.

Cab is mod plated for the V6 and the rolling chassis has already been re-built from the ground up. Work had been started on the cab so I will continue this and the front guards have already been clearanced like I wanted!

some of the ebay pics...
