So some of you may have seen the pictures from The Springs where I destroyed a set of rear lights! Missus was not happy, however it gave me the opportunity to change over to some LED's and change the mount so it doesn't happen again!
Found some neat lights on Ebay from one of my favourite sellers, here is a link to the light. 5 year warranty and fully sealed, figured they were a good buy. Got them delivered and tried them out on the battery and they are very bright too! I picked mine up on auction for $72

Old lights destroyed!

As you can see, i did the job right! Amazingly, only 1 of these wouldn't work. I bent the brackets back down and replaced the bulbs (lucky I had some spare in the glovebox) and drove her home. The RHS tail/brake combo wouldn't work as the wires had been sheared off neatly on the back of the fitting although the reverse and indicator worked fine..

Found some scrap alloy C channel which fitted nicely just where I wanted the lights so set about mounting the lights. The black surrounds on the light click off, so I decided they would look good mounted from behind with just the lens sticking out and everything else hidden. Had to make some slots in the alloy to fit and then countersunk some stainless bolts to mount it, rewired the plugs on, wrapped the whole lot in corrugated flex for protection and mounted them up. Turned out perfectly! And so slim I shouldn't hit them again!
Next job is to change the steel bearers under the tray to lift it about 20-30mm so I can fit a water tank in there and when I do that, I will bring the whole lot forward about 60-100mm which will effectively move these lights even further up and inwards!

Mate, loving the light set-up you have at the front there, looking to do the same on an Xrox bar, will need to find an LED light bar that will suit the spacing of the lugs on the top though...

Thanks again for linking that Fyrlyt spotty, i'm definitely keen on them, they look like a good bit of gear!

Funny you should say that. I have a top mount inter-cooler on my watch list on Ebay! I am waiting though until I get the canopy built and mounted and start fitting it out to see how much the extra weight drags out of the performance which at the moment I am very happy with.

We used an ML Triton intercooler and front mounted it with 2.25" piping and can only say it is well worth the effort with no lag at all.

Decided against the top mount due to heat soak when going slow off road and I know you can mount a fan on them
to help but still prefer front mount.

Might have missed it but what chip are you running . :?

Steinbauer chip. And I love it. With the 3" Sterling exhaust, the torque band is fantastic. Improvement all round. Even the wife has noticed the difference, and she doesn't drive it much!

The Intercoolers I have looked at say the front mount is no good for clearance when running bar and winch? How did you get on?

I am considering mounting a bonnet scoop anyway, just to get some more clean, cool air through the bay, but may wait until the EGT gauge goes in so I can see what current temps are.

We mounted the cooler in behind the centre of the bar and there's heaps of room but he's not running a winch atm.

If a winch was fitted it would block the air flow quite a lot but will worry abut that if we ever put a winch in.

We picked up the Triton cooler for very little off a mate and the piping off ebay cost about $200 then had to buy a few extra silocone bends and it took a couple of days to fit so good value at aprox 400 bucks or less .

Re: TDog's 03 3L T/D D/C!! New Buds Bash Plate!!!

Postby TDog on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 8:38 +0000

So Rwnlux got pulled over by the cops recently so his nice 03 Single cab has to go across the pits. He has decided to take it back to stock before hand to get it passed and then trade it in. Sad day for him, though good day for me because he is selling of some of his bits!

My front bash plate had seen much better days so when he posted he was selling his Buds plate, I just had to pick it up. Mounts so nice, and so much stronger than the standard! Pics below.

Matt
Here is the video from Camp Hill on the weekend. About half way through, I am right under the camera as I give it some berries and you can hear the exhaust pretty well. Check it out!
