Bosshog's RN105 Lux "The Pig"

Postby bosshog on Tue, 29 Nov 2011 2:14 +0000

Moving and starting a thread just for "The Pig". Bought it last week for a project ute.

For those that haven't seen its' current state here she is...

The 22R was apparently "fully reconditioned" 18 months ago (I have the receipt). Apart from that she's all bad news.

Anyway,I got underway today by getting The Pig on the hoist and assessing what is wrong with it. So far I am aware of:

Spungy brakes (master cyclinder leaking brake fluid)
Handbrake cable missing
Front rotors undersized
Rear shoes worn out
Three rear uni joints all buggered
Front left wheel bearing collapsed
Rear main seal leaking
(and therefore) clutch is contaminated and slipping
Suspension and steering bushes all flogged out
Radiator cap not holding pressure
Radiator hoses, fan belt etc all stuffed
Air from aircon not getting through to the vents
Fuel gauge sender missing in action
Tow bar not properly secured to the chassis
and I am sure there will be more.

The good news is it starts first time everytime and stereo and (front) speakers work so we can listen to some tunes at least!

So I ordered essential parts today. Tomorrow, I'll get the urgent stuff done (i.e. brakes, uni joints wheel bearings etc) this week and fix the rest between offshore work commitments.

Anyway, The Pig will be slow build up but stay tuned as I have some seriously big plans for it. In the meantime I need to get the 'boring' stuff done so that it is roadworthy and safe to drive.

Cheers

Gus

The Pig has done 345,000.

Plans include the usual such as lockers, muddies, body lift, custom tray, SR5 or Surf interior. But the main game is shoe horning a V8 under the bonnet. Just not sure which one. Thinking either a 5L 304 EFI or 4L 1UZ-FE?

100% go the 1UZ...should be a good lil build...RUF conversion, 33's and lockers and you'll be wheeling with the best of them

A unnamious decision it is! Rather than fix the leaking rear main seal, I might price up an imported half cut with a 1 UZ in it. As I will need all the electrics.

Speak to Matty from monster rides he had a contact for an auto electrician / company that builds the loom required for the conversation when he looked at doing the conversion on his lux.

hey mate nice looking lux. I had a 93 hilux with a 1uz with surf auto in it. Great car and fun to drive with v8 roar.

I dont no where you live but i would be talking to scott at vemon who is the king of these conversions and can give u all info you need. he does conversions and also has looms that pretty sure are plug and play. you just give him ur computer. With the gear box i would go a r series out of the 97-2004 hilux i think. but really depends wat you are doing with hilux. auto will be better for more rock crawling and the slow stuff.

here is pic of mine

OMG what a fantastic under bonnet pic! I can't wait to do this. I was thinking an auto as they are easier when you are in low range!

100% with auto...even my lux being auto makes wheeling soooo much easier than a manual lux of the same spec purely because its alot steadier and easier to control when in sticky situations

OK Guys and Gals

Sorry its been a slow built up! That happens when ur offshore.

Need advice please on the order of progress.

I am thinking (but feel free to correct me) the order should be...

    The body lift (to fit the V8 in);
    (It has some rust) so paint and panel (bonnnet excepted);
    The interior (anyone have a nice Surf or SR5 I can buy the seats and dash from);
    The (in capitals, bold and underlined!) 1UZ V8 :D ;
    The bonnet;
    Engineering and Rego; and
    Dare I ask anything else?

Your wisdom sought please

Gus

Well as promised I have delivered on a dual cab with a 1UZ shoehorned under the bonnet. Albeit is not the vehicle I started out with. The faithful old white pig is up for sale.

However the BRP (Big Red Pig) is fully engineered, certified and regoed with the V8.
