G’day from Tip Turkey

Postby Tip Turkey on Thu, 21 Mar 2019 12:45 +0000

Hello to all. We have 2008 Hilux 4wd Diesel with a motorhome body. Did the big lap 30 years ago but now doing it again in smaller chunks and in comfort. Touring Aus is a big call and a Toyota is a the only way to do it we think. We are pretty limited in 4wd destinations because of our height (3.6) but the 4wd still gets us into some nice places to freecamp

Joined up as there is some great advice on this forum and I’m learning my way around the vehicle.

TT

Welcome mate, post some pics if you get the opportunity.

How much fuel does your setup use?
I might be wrong.

How do you go with your GVW with a motorhome body on a Hilux?

Thanks for welcome folks. Yep, the GVM had to be upgraded to 3.3t after we bought it, otherwise the fuel and water capacity ( both double size) were unusable. The previous owner had added bits to the point were there was only capacity for them and their toothbrush. It’s not an uncommon issue for lux motorhomes and the GVM ungraded is pretty standard now. The upgrade does make the the ride excellent. We have retained the previously fitted airbags just to level the rig onsite as they are not needed for the suspension. Which makes setup a snack, pull on the handbrake, adjust the trim, open the fridge :D

Consumption is around 9l/100 but it’s sensible driving around 90 to 95 on the open road. With 3.3 t your not in a hurry and while stopping power is adequate you have to gain a mindset that your actually driving a small truck and expect longer braking distances. See more that way anyhow. When travelling between major centres we don’t fill the water tanks or use the long range fuel capacity (only in the sticks) so fuel consumption improves slightly. It’s the old problem, carrying a lot of fuel(and water) burns up more fuel.

I’ll throw some pics up soon. I joined imgur to post pics but had not got the confirmation email yet.

G'Day TipTurkey and welcome to the forum

Thanks hiluxxury

9L/100 sounds great for a motorhome body - sounds like a economical way to do a big lap
