Fuel efficiency SR5

Hi Guys,
I'm hoping some other committed Hilux owners might be able to shed some light on a fuel efficiency dilemma I have between the SR5 and SR DUAL CAB 4x4 deisel Hilux's, as Toyota haven't been able to explain anything to me though they've been very helpful at Bill buckle service in brookvale.
I own both Hilux models amongst other deisel trucks and Utes, I'm on my 7 Hilux, so have a small understanding of the fuel inadequacies generally quoted, and some of the contributing factors that impact fuel efficiency, though when I fill both vechiles up which I've done more then several times now, both models offer me a fuel distance and at all times the SR is over 120km-140km more fuel efficient than the Hilux. Toyota updated the soft ware on the SR5 relating to the particulte filter and that was unsuccessful on altering the SR5's fuel efficiency. I recently saw another driver who's SR5 registers the same predictable fuel range as mine. Is there some thing any body knows because toyota don't know about the fuel or weight set up on the SR5, that makes it less fuel efficient that the SR model. Note the SR is 2017 model and the SR5 is 2016.
Both are new 2.8L engines.

Hookyz, don't trust the range figure, it's computed and not reliable! The best way to compare is km traveled and fuel into the tank. Do this for each and you know what each vehicle does. Fill up at the same pump to the top of the tank, travel 500k and refill at the same pump for each vehicle. Divide litres in by 5 (5/100ths or 500km) to get the actual fuel figures in ltrs per 100k. This is the only way to get accurate figures. Then if you want range, multiply by the tank capacity= range ie for example 10ltr per 100k *78ltrs =780km range.

Thanks Gipsy

G'Day Hookyz and welcome to the forum

They did have a lot of fuel gauge issues with the 2016's - some had to get the fuel sender float rod bent to read accurately on the gauge - others got a better fix. You can have a search in the Gen 8 section for other fuel gauge issues but here is the largest thread:

Thanks Guys,

Appreciate the feed back, I have tried range testing them based purely on consumption and the SR wins by over 100km each time.. still baffled..

Don't trust the odometer either, they always read more than you do as the speedos are setup that way.

Have a look at the DPF threads.
You may need an ecu reflash or new dpf or both
