Hi All,

Im sorry if repeating already asked questions but i have been searching for days now and cannot find a direct answer.

I have a stock standard (Soon to have front bar and new side steps) 2014 SR5 and want to use the STANDARD Alloy 17'' Rims on the truck.

Has anyone managed to put the following tyres on without any major issues?

265/70R17
275/70R17

Or any other no standard tyre on the standard rim

Sorry again and Many thanks for the replies in advance

Dave

G'Day Dave and welcome to the forum ;)

I have moved your first post to the introductions section so that you have the tools to search what you are after.

You will need at least 2" suspension lift to start with for either tyre size
Fitting 265/70/17 are a tad under 32" and will fit fine with a 2" lift
275/70/17 will most likely foul on your Upper Control Arms so things get expensive from there changing rims and UCA's

Heres a tip for google searching: "275/70/17 + stock alloy site:www.newhilux.net"
newhilux search google page
Or just type your search terms into the "Search the Forum...SEARCH HERE! " box near the top of every page

Hi Mate,

I thought i must have posted it in the wrong section because i couldn't find it lol,

Thanks very much for the reply, i had a message from one person to say he has them on a 2013 with only a slight scrubbing on the guard but was after more then just one person who has tried.

I had a read of that post the other day but could only find details on 16inch rims and nothing on 17's.

Anyway thanks again for the reply and i welcome any other info that people could add :D

First owned Hilux and the whole family loves it to death, should have got one earlier

I have a 2015 SR5 (very last of the old shape - with no bar on the front) and have just fitted it with 265/70/R17 Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 (really nice Tyre) but unfortunately they are rubbing.
The tyre shop suggested that possibly the front suspension had sagged. They did a Wheel alignment and pushed the wheel back as far as they could but it is still rubbing at the rear mud guard of both front tyres when turning (full lock is okay but there is a point in between where it rubs) - I took it down to my Dealer as they were looking at my Brakes anyway (a whole other issue I am having and trying to get fixed under warranty) and they have confirmed that yes my front suspension has sagged and have agreed to replace/fix under warranty - however they are waiting to do this when/if my brakes are to be fixed under a warranty claim also.

I am really hoping that once the suspension is sorted they won't rub - but will let you know in a couple of weeks when it is sorted. Otherwise I will be in for a 2inch lift (which I really didn't want to have to do).

Worth mentioning also is: This is a tyre size that the Toyota Tyre Rep told me I could put on no problems and they even provided me a quote - however I was able to source them cheaper elsewhere.

Keep an eye on ya uca too guys a 265 on standard standard offset rim will be awful close if not rubbing, especially when offroad.

Depends on brand I think. I went stock 265/65/17 to 265/70/17 in BFG km2 on stock p30 rims and it comes really close to the UCA but doesn't rub with full travel. It also comes very close to backside mud flap while turning. This is with a 2" lift and bull bar. The stock 265 cleared the UCA by a lot!

Thanks for the info Logan, i at this stage am wanting to avoid the lift kit, might even consider just a front lift to level out the truck and might give it enough clearance.

Yes tyre brand is the big factor. They won't rub on the uca normally but with trye movements when wheeling they rub.
