Introduction - District 9 Build

Introduction - District 9 Build

Postby Mnu05 on Sat, 12 Mar 2016 6:40 +0000

Evening all.

Time to introduce myself and, now the missus is gone, the new project.

Image

Background: I work in film, love film, breathe film. Always wanted to drive around in a movie car...Mad Max Interceptor, Ghostbusters Ecto 1, The General Lee etc... but I wanted something different..

So, I am building a Hilux from the 2009 film, District 9. The build progress can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1505616946400505/

Luckily, a friend of mine built the originals for the movie, so I have some insider knowledge. The trucks used were the 2007 V6 Dual Cab 4 x 4 Petrol Models..out of my price range, so using a 2007 3.0D 4X4 Dual Cab with an intercooler relocation and non intake bonnet to keep the look right.

Now admittedly, the truck is going to be pushing the furthest boundries of street legal, so the plan is to be able to drive to shows and events, then add on all the non legal bits once there... (TSL Boggers, Windscreen Cage etc).

Currently working on the roof rack/rails, A-Pillar Rails, Windscreen Cage, Emergency Beacons and Modding the ARB Premium Bull Bar.

Build Budget $20K (not including the money already forked out for a 2007 Dual Cab 4 X 4!)

Feel free to ask questions, and no doubt I will be searching the forums for advice, particularly around lifts, and guard flares.

Cheers

Dean

Hi Res update picture now the main 'cage' has been finished.

Have searched the forums, trying to get clarity around the suspension set up...it has a 2" Tough Dog Lift at the front, but it appears the front coil spring is sagging under the weight of the ARB Bullbar (but before all the other goodies were fitted) TDC-97 4H springs (Heavy Duty??) Fitted. Trying to raise the nose a touch...new coils needed? I don't think 25mm spacers will cut it.

...in fact...I reckon its because there is nothing actually on the back of the truck...launching the arse end skywards, making the nose look low..

Update: Front done and powdercoated. Graphics for the front end are being printed as I type (numbers and stickers in this pic are photoshopped while I get the dimensions right). Light Bar hooked up with Blue Strobes. 33 x 14 x 15 Boggers Fitted. More to come as I finish off the armour and the rest of the metal work (window cages etc).

Cheers

Ok, bouncing ideas, need feedback....

The time and effort to fit all the movie bits and pieces to the road legal current 4X4 2007 Hilux is a PITA...4 + hours to get it show ready...and hard to do as a one man job....

If I bought a 2007 Dual Cab 4 x 2 Ute...and had it purely as an offroad, unregistered, full time dressed up truck...that would work...if... can the TGN16R Dual Cab 2 x 4 be lifted to 'look' like a 4WD easily (i.e. Snake Racing Kit)...is there any difference between the 2 x 2 and 4 x 4 lift kits? The plan would be to then tow the show truck to shows/events with Ol Faithful...

Thoughts?
