ARB Rear Step Tow Bar Query

Postby hiluxal on Tue, 10 May 2011 1:36 +0000

I copped a big whack from behind last night whilst stopped at a set of lights.

Amongst other things, stuffed my standard SR5 bumper and severly bent my tow bar. Both will need to be replaced I'd say.

I am keen to go to an ARB Rear Step Tow Bar.

Is this an all in one unit ? That is tow bar & rear step /(bar) ?

I am thinking that the upgrade in $$ from a chrome bumper + tow bar to an ARB Rear Step Tow Bar will be minimal(ish) ? If so - I am happy to pay the difference.

Any idea what a black one would look like on a tidal blue hilux with a polished alloy TJM bull bar ? Any examples out there? Not sure whether it would look the goods or need to be colour coded (which I would probably rather avoid).

Thanks in advance.

Simple answer mate, yes it is an all in one unit. Tow hitch is in the centre which is also the rear recovery point. Mounts under the chassis very tough, but can act like a grader blade on steep drop downs.

Below is a pic of a black one on my vehicle, Sterling silver. As dor how it would look on your maybe not if you have an alloy bulbar.

Yes Jiggins and I have one on Tabitha ... it tends to hurt the departure angle and works a bit like a grader blade but it is definately built strong.

We bought ours of another member second hand and he had some pretty good ideas to make it stronger so I will see if I can get Jiggins to add his photos and 2c worth.

Hi all, just digging this thread up again as I am currently thinking of getting one of these too.

Main reason is I need a towbar but the standard towbar under the SR5 chrome bumper seems to be pretty low, so got me thinking about the ARB or TJM integrated tow hitch and rear bar.

My biggest issue is my truck only just fits in my garage as it is, so I don't want to get a rear bar that protrudes any further from the rear than the stock bumper already does.

Looks like the TJM one does stick out a fair way (200mm+) but would anybody with the ARB bar be willing to measure the rear step and let me know how much it sticks out from the back of the car?

Thanks fellas!!

theyre excellent piece of equipment, only sad thing is they were designed more of the pre 2005 hilux's they sit up nice and high.. on our new hilux's they do indeed sit a bit too low

What's a guestimated price for one of these bad boys. How does it compare to a buds or rocker rear bar?

Arb in cairns, it had 1 small mark on the powder coat, so gave it to me a bit cheaper. Not sure what they usually sell for

Paid 400bucks one week old was white painted silver. But will do a rear quater chop.
Ild go straight to a chop. I went to the Stockton protest with Lukeys 4x4 customs brother(Shane) . His rig is insane and I really liked his rear bar!
ARB scrap everywhere. His chop was higher then the bottom of my tub. Good departure angle!!
Cheers, Stuart

Hey fellas, is there anybody out there that could measure the depth of the step on this bar for me? That would be awesome.

I have a pre 2005 lux. Mine sits approx 180mm from tub to the loops on the step
