Postby Tim.hudson2464 on Wed, 16 Mar 2011 6:31 +0000

Jus brought my first Hilux! And its a stunner, only problems with it are, the suppension is as hard as a rock and im looking for some decent leaf kits(any suggestions?) and was also wondering on peoples thoughts on getting a front cut off a Surf and replacing the tired N/A Petrol

Cheers

Suspension wise, it would be best to work out what sort of driving/use you have planned for the lux and what percentage of that will be offroad. Also do you need to lift it and does it need to carry decent weight and/or tow a trailer, plus what aftermarket accessories do you plan to install ie; bullbar, winch, sliders etc...

All these things will have a bearing on your ideal suspension setup and planning things out a bit will save you plenty of coin in the long run.

i mainly just go off road during the weekends(kinda like a weekend warrior), but the country out here is pretty rocky and steep, my lux already has a decent body lift so a suspension lift wont be that much of a deal, if it lifts it or doesnt , either wa im happy, its a dual cab with a short cab on it and the most i ever carry is a dirt bike and a bit of camping gear,so weight isnt much of a issue, i already have a allo bull bar and whinch installed, next major accessory will most likely be under tray tool boxes. seen a price for a full set of iron man springs and struts for $1215, thinking about getting them eventually.
thanks for your input

Mate it depends how you wanna go. Suspension wise u can go it's rears and put ur rears up front. This is cheapest option or there is Locktup sPrings which will give awesome wheel travel.

Engine wise I would only upgrade if really needed. I put a Lexus v8 in my 93 Hilux and just turned into alot of problems and ended hating my Hilux. If goin different engine try using one that comes out in Hilux so easy swap
