keyless entry remote for '97 hilux

I needed another keyless entry remote as my spare was lost. i went onto ebay and bought a single button one, but it is only for '98 + for hilux , corolla and prado. i went through all the procedures to code it from my old one but to no avail. My Toyota dealer doesn't have them anymore and put me onto repco, cheap auto spare etc. but was given the runaround as they don't have them either. does anyone know how i can get it to work or find another keyless remote ? i still use the only one left but i'd like a spare just in case.
