Im currently looking for a 3ltr turbo motor to go into my 98 dual cab sr5, just wondering if its easy to come across a lemon or are these motors as unbreakable as people say, also i have an NA 3ltr at the moment , is it tricky to drop in the turbo motor and will it bolt up to the same gearbox?

It's not a simple job. Your better selling th 98 and buying an 05 on. You could fit a 1kz-te but little gain for the effort

A commodore v6 is a common option if you didnt need the diesel

The 2.8 suffer from overheating when turboed and need a good intercooler setup with the kit aswell.

cheap conversion option but not reccomended, I have heard some people have problems with their engines because they aren't built for the stresses involved with 4x4'ing...then again others swear by them.

Id reccomend a good turbo setup onto your current motor.
