Engel setup

Postby Cinan on Wed, 26 Jan 2011 9:52 +0000

Hi,

I have a new SR5 dual cab and have recently purchased an Engel 80ltr fridge. Can anyone provide some advice and photo's on the best value for money fridge slides and how to mount it so it can be removed. I have a tub liner in the back covered by an ARB Canopy. My theory is to put in a false 16mm marine ply floor covered with marine carpet and then mount the fridge slide to that. I am planning on making the floor to the exact size of the floor space and mounting a "u shape strip of aluminium to the back of the tub that the floor can slot into and be secured onto. That way I can remove the fridge and then remove the floor when are not camping travelling. I would love from anybody who has mounted similar into a hilux without using the permanent and very expensive storage systems.

I have an 80 ltr engel on a black widow slide from ARB. It is mounted on a tray and can be removed by undoing the bolts which is not ideal if you need to take the slide out. I often take the fridge/freezer and leave the slide.
Probably no help as it's on a tray

I have a new current spec hilux SR5 with tub liner, rubber mat & ARB canopy. I cut a piece of ply to fit into the right hand rear corner of the tub. I used captive nuts to bolt the fridge slide to the ply. Then drilled holes in the tub & used captive nuts to bolt the ply to the tub. It takes a couple of minutes to install or remove the fridge.

Sounds like a similar idea, what do mean by a "captive nut" ? Is it secured through the tub liner into the metal body or are you just securing it to the plastic of the liner ? Any photo's ?

Thanks for your insight "jap", I thought 4WD's where for off road not the drag strip, looks like you might have yourself a money pit there !!!

I used to different types of captive nuts. The fridge slide is bolted to a ply wood base & then the ply wood base is bolted to the steel tub. Drilled 18mm holes in the tub liner to fit the captive nuts into the tub. If i get a minute I'll post a couple of pic's
