Over heating

Postby kward on Fri, 21 Jan 2011 9:17 +0000

Hi all im new to this. I have a KZN165 2001 Ute, the problem I am having is the temp gauge in the cluster. I start the car leave it for a good 20 mins and the gauge hits the top. But when I drop a probe into the top tank on the radiator the temp is at 62c and at 65c you can see the flow of water going across the top tank. Dose anyone knows what I need to do to fix this. I have changed the thermostat I have also had the radiator check while it’s not in the best condition it still works. I have flushed the radiator out twice. I am thinking it could be the temp sender but im un sure. Could I just buy an after market temp gauge and run that as a low cost option? Thanks for your time hope someone can help thanks. Keith

the factor Toyota temp gauge is basically a sticker. i have an after market gauge and from 50 degree to 102 degrees the Toyota needle doesn't move.

its an 01 1kzte.

i would recommend an after market gauge.

Hi Keith,
there's a thread somewhere on hear concerning Scan-gauge.... if you are mid 2006 on or Smart-gauge if prior (I think).
Not only will it give you an accurate temp readout (assuming the ECU picks up a properly working sensor) but an array of other indications...... not expensive.....

Let us know how you get on with the sensor..... you might wish to consider the above gauges as well....
