Help - Replacing extractors on '97 hilux diesel 3L motor

Postby skookumchuck on Tue, 10 Aug 2010 3:04 +0000

i'm in the process of starting to replace my leaking extractors with new ones. i have taken off the air cleaner housing and now i find that the last bolt on the manifold is in behind the aircon housing. do i have to take the whole housing off or is there an easier way to get to the bolt ? i've taken two long bolts out of the brackets but it won't move. looks like the bolts that fit it onto the motor is holding it but they look pretty hard to get to. any ideas ? has anyone done this before ?

well i've got them off and in the process of cutting the pipe to fit. then the fitting the new ones. i'll put up the steps on after i've finish and a handy hint for future relacement of manifold. if i can i'll post pics of the stages. so far i've saved myself heaps. just time involve with fiddly bits.

Finished oldrev ! Worked it out in the end. A bit fiddley but I took my time and after I'd put them on I took it down to the muffler place and got the pipe welded ($20). All up it cost me about $200. That's new extractors, gasket & welding. Anyone thinking of doing it themselves pm me and I'll give you some tips on doing it. Next time will be easier if I have to take them off as I ground a bit out of the cast iron bracket so I can get a socket in to the last bolt instead of taking off everything to get to all the bolts.
