2.8ltr 3L into LN46 help.

Postby pwilliam on Sun, 29 Dec 2019 5:09 +0000

Hi guys.

I'm pretty new here.
I've searched far and wide for info.

However I'm at the point I need to ask.

I fitted the 3L onto the L40 gear box using the factory ln106 flywheel and clutch.

Bolted up ok.
Went to start it and it won't crank. Basically the clutch and flywheel setup are either too long or too wide for the bell housing and it cannot rotate.

Has anyone bolted the 3L to a L40 before? The 2.2ltr L series engine has a six bolt crank versus the 3Ls 8 bolt crank so I can't use the old flywheel setup. I have thought about getting the flywheel modified. Which might be my only savour.

Please note I don't want to put in a G5* gearbox. As it's just farm basher.

Any help would be appreciated!

Preston.

I don't specifically know the model numbers you're quoting, but at a guess the 2 flywheels are different diameters, the Bendix throw on the starter motors differs or the different models don't line up the same way. If you check and test these, I feel certain you'll find the answers you seek.
Sorry I can't help more.
