Changed Timing belt with new pump and kit as 100000 interval reached hilux is ln106 1996 model took it for a drive to check for leaks none next day started leaking after driving pulled off water pump thinking gasket as lots of coolant in case it was not coming from weep hole on water pump unfortunately did not pressure test system did not think, leak appeared again, damn this time took timing case cover off and pressure tested with borrowed tester, coolant coming from water pump mounting bolt unbolted water pump changed gasket and on bolts used Holden sealing compound for head studs on bolts ,installed pressure tester no leaks, still fine,a mechanic suggested the compound for bolt, not sure why the bolt leaked.

All that with only a few comer's makes it hard to figure out if it is a question, statement or both.

Try putting an alloy washer under the head of the bolt. See this alot in the motorcycle industry as some engine bolts pass through oil or coolant galleries.

If you’re taking the bolt out to put a washer under it, I’d be applying some gasket goo to the thread before it goes back in. Used to see this a little t on the old Holden’s, have come across it on the hilux but haven’t done a water pump yet either!

After speaking to a 4x4 engine rebuilder he said they had a similar problem years ago after replacing head gaskets, and using a green coolant ,they then ran straight water for first couple of thousand kilometres drained then added appropriate mix with coolant coloured red ,explaining the technical make up of the green coolant,of which I can’t remember now and why it runsI have since flushed and drained the coolant ,I am now running straight water the rebuilders advise was it may seal up ,well the drip has stopped fingers crossed, after a few weeks I will then put 50 percent coolant mix he also explained about Holden sealing compound 3835215 on the bolt which is similar to your suggestion.
