Longer or Shorter shocks for 2" lifted springs?

Postby LuX54 on Wed, 09 Dec 2015 7:48 +0000

Has anyone ran 4" shocks with 2" lifted springs on the rear of their hilux? I'm looking at trying to get the most articulation i can. Will 2" shocks work better or will 4" shocks be more than enough travel? It's an 03' hilux
Pictures of setups please!

I run 4" shocks on my 2000 LN167 hilux because I have aftermarket upper control arms on the front and 2" lifted springs with 2" extended shackles on the rear. The ride is a lot smoother onroad and offroad with the longer shocks.

Alright thanks heaps for your advice mate. Decided to go with the 4" shocks in the rear with future mods in mind.

What upper control arms do you have?

It's not as easy as Puting longer shockers in
Yon need to measure the length as longer shockers will bottom out on up travel unless extended bump stops are fitted
And each shocker brand and size will be different so just guessing will end out costing you more due to buying stuff 2 or 3 times

Keep you stock shocker
Fit 2" lift
Disconnect both shockers and lift one as high as you can so max out lift on other side
Measure the length between the points ie might be 700mm
Lower the car so both wheels are on ground
Take that measurement, ie 525mm
Chassis to bump stop, ie 140mm
You shocker will need to retract to 385mm and extent to 700mm
So you will need a 13" 325mm travel shocker with the above measurment as an example
If you can't and only find a 14" travel you will either have to lift top shocker mount or fit extended bump stops to restrict up travel
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

I bought them from Offroad Equipment (ORE) in Myaree. Not sure what brand since the box did not have any labeling nor instructions. Nothing branded on the parts either.
